PS3 Not Reading Discs

as the title suggests, my PS3 has stopped reading its discs. every 1 in 7 tries it will read the disc and i can play, lets say a map of cod 4 mw 2 and then itll just freeze at the end of the map, i restart my ps3 and it no longer detects the disc. any suggestions as to what i can do???? i dont really wanna send it to sony as it costs way too much to repair, so any tips how to get the disc to spin.
 
You need a replacement laser mate.

Easy enough to do it yourself.

Plenty of places about will repair it for you.
 
any tips to get it working without buying a new laser, any positions i can put it in, sometimes if i put it on its side the disc will spin for a couple of seconds, theres gotto be a pressure point, that 1 point that if theres some pressure, it might start to spin.

Totally depends how old his console is. Sony stopped repairing 60gb consoles for free ages ago.
