PS3 not turning on

I turned on my PS3 a few minutes ago and it got stuck on the wave screen, just after the ps3 logo comes up when you start the console. It wouldn't load the main menu, just displayed the wave background.

I found somewhere that said to turn the PS3 on by holding the power button in for 5 seconds and now the screen just goes black when I turn the PS3 on (compared to blue when my TV doesnt detect any input). The PS3 won't turn off unless I hold the power button in for ages and neither HDMI or the red white and yellow cable outputs work.

Any suggestions how I could get it to work? Or will I need to send it back

Looked online for other solutions, tried them all and the only one that worked was formatting my PS3.

Lost all my saves but the consoles still working q_q

No idea. It just wouldnt turn on and the only thing id used it for that day was streaming media.

Nothing seems to be broken permanently, though. It works fine and I'll remember to back up my saves in future

mine went a bit nuts streaming earlier with ps3 media player had to restart my ps3 several times to resolve it mines a phat one btw

Heh. Looks like mines ****** now.
It's come up with the corrupted HDD error 3 times now. No idea what it's caused by but it wasn't doing it when I bought it so I'm gunna send it back.

Sitting through a 14 hour format of the disc just to check, though Q_Q

pull the hdd out and see if it runs ok with out
