PS3 or Wii?

Since our lasses son got his wii and brought it round on Xmas day i've been really impressed (though not enough to pay extortionate prices they are going for atm), i really like the whole concept - and the possibilities for the future, however, i popped into our independent gaming store today and noticed a preview for GT5 being displayed on a 40" KDL2000W and to say it looks impressive is an understatement, so after that, i've been thinking wether to go for a PS3 instead, now to cap it all off, i've heard the new GTA game is being released in March, and i really like the GTA series.

So, what should i go for, the wii with its endless fun and possibilities ar the ps3 with its blu-ray and HD gaming and awesome graphics, i really don't know which direction to go now

Where abouts in Redcar btw?

going off your position on ocuk map - about 5 minutes away - though not officially Redcar town - just didn't want to be associated with Middlesbrough

I like the fun to be had with the wii, xbox maybe an option, but isn't it getting a bit long in the tooth now?, ps3, gfx are awesome.

Thanks for all your input guys, i've taken a lot of it onboard, and as much as i want a wii (lol), as has been mentioned, it's primary function is multiplayer / party use, i normally have friends round for poker maybe once a fortnight or something. So i may discount the wii as i think i may get bored of single player use.

My G/f's son also has a 360 - which he plays on a lot - and has had it since near release a couple/ few years ago (can't remember when it was released now), and the multiplayer element (xbox live) is very tempting, however, i've seen a few 'three red light' stories which are putting me off the 360.

So in the light of that, that leaves the PS3 (for now - i may still consider the 360 yet). Some promising looking titles due out for the ps3 (GTA IV, GT5P, both of which i will buy, plus more) however the games are more expensive than on the other platforms but that's just a minor side (non) issue, plus the ps3 is blu ray ready too, xbox i'd have to buy a stand alone HD-dvd player wouldn't i? Though i can't help feeling that there are more better games for the 360, which is only because it's been out longer than the ps3.

I'm not a hardcore gamer, but i play games on my pc (usually buy most of the top titles - latest being the orange box though) I mainly play FPS games and i also like driving games (realistic or unrealsitic) last one i bought was TD:U - but i don't have a wheel - use control pad. Wether that info is relevent or not i've added it anyway.

Does PS3 have an onlince community like xbox? How much if it does and what exactly is sixaxis - and does the dualshock 3 have it?
