ps3 outsells 360

I just feel like it's not our job to care. I'm well aware that healthy competition keeps the industry moving. But, the last time I was actually bothered who was top, was when I owned a SNES and my mate had a Mega Drive! :D

lol SNES vs Mega Drive.

Its always been like this though.

NES vs master system

SNES vs Mega Drive

Playstation vs Staturn

Playstation 2 vs xbox + dreamcast

Playstation 3 vs xbox 360 to which the nintendo Wii overtook them both and stayed there lol

Now it'll be Playstation 4 vs xbox one with thw Wii U having near on no chance of beating either one of them..

sony did well to shift so many Ps3 units. It was, as said the blu ray drive at the start of the Ps3 life that saved this system, then sony got some darn good exclusives that further helped. If Sony only had multi platform games, the story would have been much different to what we read today.

N64, surely? I don't think the Saturn was even around when I got a PlayStation.

Think the N64, PS1 and Saturn were all 5th gen consoles. N64 should have done so much better, but was a failure compared to PS1 and Saturn. Saturn if I remember suffered same as PS3 - complicated to develop for. PS1 was a developers dream at the time..

Edit - actually it appears the N64 sold more then Sega did with the Saturn.. Hmmm interesting.

I'm not criticising the Saturn, I'm just pointing out it's what started Sega's decline in the home console market, with the Dreamcast finishing them off.

Saturn + virtua cop = awesome :p

Sales are still fairly high and MS have said they still want to sell 25mil more Xbox's and have some major "please still buy it" announcements to make at E3 for the current gen, most likely just cheaper and a few more games, like the PS2 it should still sell for some time after the X1 is available.

Current sales of the 360 and PS3 are kicking the Wii and Wii U's ass, I think its around the 80-100k mark a week is it for the Xbox, around 110-130k a week for PS3 and 20-25k for the Wii, a hair over 30k for the Wii U, considering the Wii U is brand new and the other two sales are coming down now, current Wii U sales are abysmal.

People In this thread keep suggesting that the Playstation 3 has only sold well due to being cheaper than Blu-Ray players at the time of release, except it's only over the last two or three years when Blu-Ray players have been available at very reasonable prices that we have heard anything about the PS3 sales picking up.

I don't think it's that, just that a lot of early sales will have been attributed to it being a bluray player considering it was the cheapest bluray player around for quite some time.

The failure of the Saturn, 32X and Sega CD were the reasons the Dreamcast's life was cut short :(. The Dreamcast was awesome.

That and issues with games, I'm pretty sure they had an issue with EA who didn't want to publish any games for them, or rather specific games meaning Sega had to rely on first party support for the Dreamcast.

The beef between sega and ea has been going on for years before. Me personally, I wouldn't miss a single EA title if they went out of business today. M$ and EA joining forces over the xbone, it's like a snake and a possum being in the same room, can't wait till they start trying to do one over each other, sit back and watch the fire works :)
