Ps3 Owners Rejoice GT5P IS Released - The FM2 Curious Thread

Not getting any at the minute?

Nice grown-up comment, but I'm getting more than enough thanks, even with me being "small minded and petty" (I assume that was aimed at the likes of me?)

If you had just simply stated that it was your opinion that you preferred the stick, rather than just a blanket statement effectively saying people are chumps for using triggers, and that you think you are in some way better informed because your job involves driving ( ), then I wouldn't have had any problem.

Seemingly other people think using triggers is better too...

Have a nice day :)

No need for the pompous reply, whats eating you today? Not getting any at the minute?

Its more to do with feel than "handling" you rely on more than just your eyes when driving, its all to do with feel, you feel the car loosing traction the feedback through the wheel, the brake pedal etc etc.

NO form of control on a console, or PC, even the steering wheels come anywhere near to replicating the sensation of driving.
They dont.
However, sticks (for the sake of the small minded and petty in here) "in my opinion" offer a better method, I find the lack of control over braking using the triggers particularly awkward as you loose a lot of movement in your left thumb while operating the left trigger (I do anyway).

Thats because of the crap PS3 pad.

The triggers as a control method gives you more control.Thats not my opinion, just a fact.

I didnt say anybody was a chump or wrong for using triggers?
I said developers were wrong for not giving people the option to redefine the control method back to the far better stick method.

Dont quote me, or tell me I've said things that simply are not the case, therefore you wont have to justify yourself getting all angry and jumping on your high horse because you think you have read something you have not.

Of course, if you can find me the post or the bit of text where i said the end user is wrong for preferring triggers, then I'll apologise, but you cant, because i have not said it.
I've said one method is better than the other, if you like the inferior trigger method, that is entirely down to you.
Doesnt make you a chump, you just like it better.
People that drive automatics are not chumps, they just prefere it, but a manual is a far better method.
same thing.

I know. That's why I described your post as effectively saying they were. I wasn't quoting directly. Maybe I was too harsh in saying that, if so then I'll apologise and get off this large horse of mine :)

If you think the stick is better then fine, just maybe phrase your posts in such a way that you make it sound like your opinion, rather than hard fact (which is how I, perhaps wrongly, interpreted it) as the majority seem to think the complete opposite as you.

Back on topic, if there ever was one? :p

Well my X360 died at the weekend, and whilst I'm going to send it off for repair I decided to treat myself to a PS3, GT5P, F1 and Rainbow 6 Vegas 2.

I loved Forza 2 on the 360 - Drexel got it bang on with his description of the physics. I've still got a way to go on GT5 as I've only just got to A class, but here are my views, playing on a 42" HD plasma, pads for controllers on both systems:

Graphics: Defintiely miles better on GT5. The In-car view is probably better that PGR4 too as visibility seems less compromised. Car models are almost photo realistic at times. I haven't noticed a lack of details in the scenery as I'm always concentrating too much on the road. GT5 Wins

Sound: Bit disappointing so far. I realise I've got to try loads of the better cars yet, but all the cars I've heard so far sound very very similar. Forza 2 Wins

AI: Very bad - this is no better than GT1. I raced Suzuka short 5 times and saw the same cars run off into the gravel at the same point on lap one each time. Obviously just following a script and the cars dont seem to react to your position on the track very well. I hope this is much improved for the full game. Forza Wins by miles

Physics - This is probably better than other GT games but still a bit simplistic. I drive with all the aids turned off, Pro physics and Manual gears and the car is far too easy to drive fast without crashing/spinning. My 9 year old son doesnt need to change the settings when he plays and he still wins races, whereas on Forza he needs to revert to his own profile to make it easier. Its hard to describe the difference - it may be the controllers lack of rumble/weight, but somehow in forza you can just feel what the car is doing and when its about to let go - theres a real finess about the handling and physics that rewards hours of practice. In GT5 its all just simpler. Thats not to say the game itself is easy - some events are hard but thats more to do with the time limit or class of car you're in.

The lack of damage and ability to just ram other cars to take the inside line or grind against the barriers with little or no loss in speed is very annoying - again something thats never been addressed from the earlier versions, although I did take part in a manufacturer race which had the penalty system, making you more inclined to race properly. Again, despite improvement in GT its another win for Forza

So all in all my view is that Forza is a better game in most respects. Its not such a huge difference as the score suggests though - Forza 2 is just a bit better at everything it does, apart from the graphics.

Its a shame that prologue doesnt have better tracks - theres far to much banked speedway in it for my liking, although Sukuka is one of my favourite tracks so that almost makes up for it. Apart from that its very polished and worth the £25, although I'm struggling to work out how to change the pad controls for player 2 when playing split screen :/

I'll probably still buy the full game when it comes out, but I hope they work on the AI and physics in the next year
