I'm thinking of getting a PS3 for its blueray capabilities as well as GT5, what is the likelyhood of an imminent price cut ?

Didn't Sony say they had no plans to cut the price anytime soon?

If the price does lower, however, it'll do wonders for adoption of it. Then again, Sony is still loosing money on every console, so it's probably not going to happen.

As the pound is week against the Japanese Yen I wouldn't expect a price cut, in fact id imagine they will be doing every thing they can to stop the price going up.
Most goods from Japan will start to go up in price and id imagine goods from China and other eastern countries going up as well.

i cant see one unless the 360 starts making gains, or they adopt a lower node and it's cheaper to produce

Sony usually just change the console itself rather than drop the price i.e. sticking an 80Gb hard drive in instead of a 40Gb or will package it with an extra controller or games. I held of for so long that after christmas i thought i might aswell just buy one now as my savings are not making any interest in the bank so i might as well spend some money. Got an 80Gb with 3 games for £299 (little big planet, fifa 09 and fallout 3)

So what are the best deals out there currently ?

Best I've seen so far is 80gig PS3 with hdmi + motorstorm for £273.59

Anyone seen any better ?

I wouldn't say a price cut is immenent, but I would be willing to bet on one in the next several months. They haven't announced anything official, but blu-ray did pretty well in Q4, so I could see them looking to further market penetration by lowering the flagship player (PS3) down in price to keep up with the rest of the quickly declining market. I've actually been working with Warner Home Video on some blu-ray projects and still consider the PS3 the best overall player around. It's totally worth it (not to mention, GT5 is gonna rock).

Sony Computer Entertainment Europe's David Reeves has said that he believes the PlayStation 3 will always demand the highest price in the home console market.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with our sister site Eurogamer.net, Reeves admitted that there is a possibility for a price cut on the luxury console – but no plans are in place due to the current economic downturn.

etc etc etc see link above.

If you're experienced, you know you have to go into that mode - it's like being an armadillo. You have to be hard, and then you will come out when the sun comes out."

Love that quote :p

He's also another one of these Sony employees that bangs on about it's 10 year life-cycle for products. Whilst I respect that, does anybody really see the PS3 being competitive in 7 1/2 years time like the PS2 was (and still is).
