Bigger box!
Found a bunch of speculation on the net but nothing official.

Sony are soon to release an 80 gig PS3 in summer. Maybe June....

Is this likely to come in more expensive, reduce the price of the 40 gig, or replace the 40 gig?

Anyone know??

Cheers :)

the 40gb wont get cheaper i wouldnt have thought, the 80gb model will be to replace the more expensive, but now discontinued 60gb model.

rumour says so. but i dont think the spec has been confirmed yet ?

Its all i'm waiting for, confirmation of the model out and whether it has BC. I would be ****ed if I bought a 40 now for the 80 to have BC.

Sony should release a definate statement whether it has it or not. They should say it definately wont have BC in the UK, then i'd just buy a 40. Plenty of people like myself must be holding off because they want to make sure.

Backwards compatibility.

Last I heard about a new PS3 was when Phil Harrison (when he was still at Sony) said that putting a 80gb hard drive instead of 40gb would not be worth while for the European market, and that they would prolly put a 120gb hard drive or larger. :)

The Japanese are getting a special edition gun metal gray coloured 40gb MGS4 PS3 when it comes out. I wonder if they will bring a special edition out in the UK?

Yeah but thats Sony Usa, I want confirmation of what the Uk one will be. I've read conflicting stuff.

I will wait til june and see what we get.

Cheers for that BC should have realised.

one other questions is why put it back in, or why did they remove it from the current 40Gb model?

production costs

they wanted a console to retail for £300 to compete with the 360. So they cut BC, USB ports, card reader etc.. to get the cost down. The 60gb PS3 was £450 before it was cut.

They took it out to cut costs. I think the only way BC will make a reappearance in Europe is if/when they get the PS2 emulation working entirely in software with no dependency on certain PS2 chips.

There's been talk recently of PS2 games appearing on the PS Store in the future which would suggest there's some software emulation in the works (no links to this but stories like it have been posted a few months ago).

For the USA though. No-ons has said there is a 80gb version with BC coming to the UK. People are just assuming.

rp2000

Well im gonna asume then.

And then if we dont get it, thats when im gonna be mad:p(we get the region as you)

BTW if you did get one from the US what can and cant you do on it due to region crap?

The only problem i can see is that your DVd/BD player will be region 1 only, some BD disks are multiregion there's a few sites telling you which ones. Games are not region encoded so any game from any region should play, but there are a few cases (bout 3 or 4!) were games multiplayer part is region locked. The other issue is that it will be highly doubtful Sony UK would honor the warranty if the US version went wrong.
