This is based around rumors, facts or lies, to save the flames if I say something that was just a lie or rumor.

Ok I've played the Xbox 360, retail price for the premium package was £280. PS3's is a wopping £420. Now I saw a website with all the games and comparisons of each games graphics side by side, and the 360 came out on top on 8/10 games or something. I think that the graphics look exactly the same and its essentially the same console except the PS3 has a bigger harddrive and an uneeded Blue Ray drive imo. Sure its nice to have a Blue Ray drive built in but it smacks the price up.

Also I have heard/read things like the European console had issues and probly won't be backwards compatible with all/most PS2 games. Also heard you wouldn't be able to rent games? because they get registered to your system when you buy them or something.

Point is, how can someone justify its fine to buy the PS3 when the 360 is basically the same. I have a PS2 and PS1 and PSP. No Xbox's so im not an Xbox fan boy at all. I just think Sony have made a bit of a mess. When the PS3 comes out the 360 will no doubt drop in price anyway. But I don't see why the PS3 had to have a blue ray player? I mean obviously those loaded are fine to buy it right there and then but what of those who have to watch their spending?

Sort of answering your own question there.

People have faith in Sony, the ones who want to buy it don't care how much it is. It'll probably be more successful than the 360 but does that mean it's "worth it"? I'm not sure myself to be honest...

I care about how much it is. It's wiped out a nice chunk of my university savings. I am very keen on the Blu-ray drive though as I am a HD geek. The games are a nice bonus! LOL.

by time you add up a xbox 360, wireless adapter and the hd drive for it is more than the ps3.

ps3 has it all built in.

This is what i was trying to say to someone else in another thread.

Why not trade in your PS1, PS2 and get a PS3 for peanuts ;)

I admit I got a PS3 just for the Blu Ray. The games were a bonus, and the more I look at the games, the better it seems :)

seems a bit of a pointless thread just to ask "PS3 really worth it?" and then tell us all why you think it's not!

With regards to the GFX comparisons on each, I remember comparisons like these being posted on sites before the PS3 US launch. Tbh there was very little between them but most people were saying 360 was better for games like Fight Night etc. Then after having played Fight Night myself I realised that some of the background details were slightly better on the 360 but the boxers looked better on the PS3 as the swet looked more realistic etc. It really is very difficult to judge the difference graphically as some games will look better on one and others on the other. Common opinion seems to be that the PS3 will win through in the long run when devs start to make better use of the Cell processor and when games come out which require more storage space.

Yup if you look at it that way the PS3 is about the same price.
However if like me you don't want the extras then the 360 is better value.
Whichever way you cut it £425 is a lot of cash to part with in one go.

Technically the PS3 is more than worth the money you pay for it for the components... But its whether you want a blu-ray player etc...

Personally i'm waiting a little longer to see what happens with the whole blu-ray vs hd dvd thing... I've kinda hold a grudge against Sony for doing what they did with blu-ray etc... Very Microsoftey...

Well tbh the 360 isn't the same. Because i can't play motorstorm etc on the xbox 360. Not that the xbox 360 couldn't run them, but the fact they are only published on the PS3.

If you want to play the games coming out only on the PS3, then yeah it is worth it.
If you want to play only cross format games, but would like a Hi Def movie player too, then yeah it is worth it.
If you want to only play cross format games, then no it isn't worth it
If you want to play xbox exclusives, then you are too dumb to be let out in public if you buy a PS3

You need to decide what is important to you and take it from there.
As i have always said, the PS3 has an initial high cost, but a lower TCO.

Take a simplified car anaology
You can get a car with all your trimmings etc for £10,000, comes with wee toys that might not essential for being a car, but are nice to have, e.g. GPS, Air Con, Upgraded Stereo, leather seats.
Or you could buy a car for £8,000, but doesn't come with the wee bells and whistles you might not need. e.g. GPS or air con, but you can add all these things for say 3 grand.

Now you may be happy with your basic model 8 grand car and it will do you. others might think they will get an initial outlay done and save energy later on.

One thing that's tickled me this week is the press completely exaggerating the PS3 capabilities and how it's twice as powerful as the 360. I was sitting there chuckling wondering how many people are going to fall for it.

By powerful they mean by mass... Its weight and size will do more damage to the front of a car than a 360, by comparison the wii is probably 10x less powerful.

rofl!

Just buy both, that is what I plan to do 6-12 months into PS3's life when it is at the same stage the 360 is at now (having a nice big games catalogue and more on the horizon)

:)

I have heard some utter tripe on the radio. This morning i heard that the PS3 is unique in offering online game play, i mean WTF?

ditto, when the exculsive AAA titles come out then Ill get one. but at the moment it seems that its mostly the same games that I have for my 360.

If I didnt have a HD DVD player id be tempted to get it for Blue Ray but other then that there is just nothing out there for it thats screaming buy me right now.

Does look like a damn fine piece of kit though, bet all you guys cant wait till tomorrow :)

Just to clear-up something... the myth that you'll not be able to rent games, or even sell them after you've finished with them was debunked absolutely ages ago.

As for the backward compatibility, the site is now up so you can gauge for yourself whether you'll be able to play "all/most PS2 games" on a PS3. There's a thread on here that discusses those games that are affected that bother people.
