PS3 region speeds?

i read on another thread that a PS3 will play ps3 software region free.

So, just to clarify, does this mean that a UK ps3 would play any japanese or american ps3 game?

Also, will a UK ps3 run games at exactly the same speed as the japanese and USA counterparts?

or is it like the previous generation of consoles where default for UK systems is 50hz?

is there any reason to buy a UK ps3 instead of a US or japanese one? (seeing as the UK system has a lack of backward compatibility)

BD movies are region coded but sony say its upto the developers to put a region code on games if they wish. Jap 60gb cost 250ish and the U,S is 305ish plus P&P but if you wanted as a cheap BD player you could buy U,S movies as they are the same Region code for films (Region A) uk BD are region B.
