My fat PS3's blu ray drive conked out so i bought a new 160gb slim and after mulling over the best way to move the saves across (games like bioshock and FF 13) i settled on using the data transfer utility.

After updating the firmware to 4.11 on both systems and 'deactivating' the old one per sonys online instructions (i had to make a PSN account to do this) i did the data transfer with no errors and i 'activated' the new system.

Everything seems to be copied over (i only had game saves) but i can't use the saves, it says they're from another user.
Most peoples problems stem from trying to transfer their saves over USB or somesuch, all the people who have done an entire data transfer have working save games, even the copy protected ones.

Any ideas? Is anyone registered on PS3 forums who could ask this? i've been trying to figure this out all over the weekend and it's doing my nut in!

Not got a clue but have you checked that your PS3 username is the same as on the old PS3 (not your PSN login name, I mean the actual PS3 user account)

Only reason I say is that the save games seem to be linked to that rather than the PSN account (or maybe additional too). Ive noticed next to the 'save data utility' that it lists my PS3 username and not the PSN login name...

Other than that Id say its worth giving Sony a call
