Hi,
What should these be set to?

Video output settings: current output resolution 1080i

cross colour reduction filter is set to "off"

RGB full range (HDMI) is set to limited

YPB/CB PR/CR superwhite hdmi is set to "OFF"

Depends on the TV/Monitor really.

I have cross colour reduction filter "on".

RGB full range "Full" (I definitely noticed a lot of difference with this on full, colours looked much more vibrant.)

Superwhite "off" (I found that it was too bright and washed out for my liking, its hooked up to a Dell 2407 though which already has eye retina damaging brightness levels, so may vary on your display.)

Best thing is to try them really.

Hi,
Thanks for the replies:) I have the ps3 connected to the tv via HDMI.

The telly is a LG 32LC3R, it can produce 1080i

Thats if your using a HDMI cable.

I recommend you stick to Limited RGB unless your TV supports use of Full RGB.

Most TV's expect a signal in the 16-235 range (16 being darkest black, 235 brightest white) which is Limited RGB, all that Full RGB does is remap/stretch this range to 0-255 so it's actually no different to Limited RGB if the TV supports it (it's just mapped differently).

So if your TV is expecting a Limited RGB (16-235) signal and you tell your PS3 to send a Full RGB (0-255) signal, what will be happening is you will be losing all colours in the 0-15 and 236-255 ranges - which is why a lot people notice an increase in contrast, since there's more white and black and less of a gradient.

The most obvious sign that your TV doesn't support Full RGB will be "black crush" which is a loss of detail in darker areas, this is because any colours in the 0-15 range (which should be black and progressively lighter shades of gray) will just be cut off and hence loss of detail.

Tv's are different but i would say 720p is better than using 1080i

this is my settings with a link hdmi cable

Video output settings: 720p

RGB full range (HDMI) : Full

YPB/CB PR/CR superwhite hdmi : Off

Shameful copy & paste from Inoshishi post :p:D .

Bang on - set RGB to limited :)

Hi,
Thanks for all the replies:) I'm now really confused wither to set RGB to limited or full:confused:

Also- under game settings ps upscaler is set to normal? is this right?

Sorry to hi-jack this thread for a moment. But i just bought a PS3 and its on its way, but i have read a lot about the new upscaling of DVD's. But what setting do you guys recommend for a 1080p HDTV? There is Off/Double Scale/Normal/Full Screen i think in the upscale options, so what is the best one through HDMI?

Cheers

Use the test pattern in msmalls74 link to find out.

If you can't see all the blocks then this will correspond with a loss of detail in your games too.

Going by those settings I'm not sure, what you want is 1:1 pixel mapping which might be what the full screen mode is.
