Hi Guys,

Iv come into a bit of cash which is burning a hole in my pocket, I have been toying with the idea of getting a PS3 now that the HD war is decided its making me think even more that the PS3 is worthy buy. Just have a few questions.

Are there any stand out game available yet that are truly AAA titles?

Are the new controllers bundled with them yet?

Is a new version just on the horizon, would want to buy one then a slinkier, better specced unit gets released the month after.

hmm, well i dont think ill bother then, Uncharted looks fun, but no AAA in my eyes, the standard controller is trulying horrible, dont even get me started on MGS, gamplay has always taken a back seat over the cut scenes.

Oh well, the idea of a silent well built console that also played HD films really did appeal to me, but im not willing to pay £300 for what would be just a Blu Ray player as theres no decent games out im interested in.

Ill hang back, surely it cant be that far off before the great games arrive

Fair enough, just out of interest what are these AAA games your refering too?

Not trying to start an arguement but but just asking for AAA titles is always going to be subjective and tbh imo AAA games are games which are creative and are offering gamers something new, as well as being additive which tbh there have been very very few so far in this generation of consoles.

AAA games in my eyes are must have titles, and the list below quoted by another poster I would argue that only uncharted possibly falls into that list.

  • Warhawk,
  • Uncharted
  • RFoM
  • Rachet and Clank
  • F1 CE
  • Tekken
  • Hot Shots
  • MotorStorm
  • Time Crisis

Im not trying to start an argument, yes I own a 360 and I love it to bits, other then the reliability issues that have dogged it, and the noise issues, it really is the best console iv had since the Snes & Dreamcast.

Some of the games that I would class as AAA titles for the 360

  • GOW
  • FN3
  • COD4
  • PGR4
  • Mass Effect
  • Bioshock
  • GRAW 1 & 2

All the above are games I have enjoyed emensely, and in my eyes are must own, I was hoping the PS3 would have such impressive games by now, or at least some great games on the way. I really liked the look of 'Little Big Planet' but I havent heard any more on it, MGS4 initally interested me until the showed actual gameplay footage. Other the that I am not aware of any PS3 only titles on the horrizon that would sway me into buying one. I know its a great Bluray player, I also know its a pretty good media centre (but then so is the 360 bar the noise)

Like I said, im not trying to start a war here, im just not that clued up on the PS3 scene and was hoping I would get people saying, such and such is coming out next month, its a must have, a PS3 exclusive etc.

well after much debate I have decided to buy one, as soon as Mr parcel force turns up with my new speakers im going to nip into town and get the Drakes Fortune pack for £299.

In the end the Blu ray sold it to me, along with the promise of Little big planet and eventually God of War. Other then Drakes Fortune I cant see me buying any of the current crop of games.

Is there any other bits I need to buy while im there other then maybe a second controller

cheers for all the info guys, I DS3 is a definate purchase I think, as is the Remote control. Ill be sure to pick up a HDMI lead while im there, I cant believe they dont give you one in the box the tight gits.

I will be sure to download all the demos as soon as its up and running.

Oh, does any place on the highstreet sell cheap HDMI cables, I would like to pick one up today but not if it means paying over £20 when I can get them for £7 online.

Well I got it, just spent the last hour setting it up, digging out my the email with my user ID I registered around 2 years ago. Updating software, and just left it downloading a few demos now. Havent even unwrapped uncharted yet.

Inatial impressions are

  • Nice machine, looks well built
  • Totally Silent - XBOX360 take note
  • Nice Menus, a little confusing but they look nice
  • PSN is average at best, no where near as good as XBL, but at least its FREE
  • Controller, yuk yuk yuk, The main reason I have held off buying a PS3, time to order a DS3

After all the demos have downloaded Ill spend a good while playing on the games and ill see how I get along with it as a console, Im also going to nip out later and buy Ratatoui as its suppsoed to be the best quality Blu Ray film out at the moment, and its a great fun movie.

Oh, anyone that wants to add me, feel free, user id is

Hi guys, been playing on all the demos for a while now, so far not that impressed by anything, nothing has wowed me like a fair few 360 games have, although I still havent tried Drake.

2 questions.

I downloaded the 1080p trailer for ratatouille, and it has some very noticable colour banding on it, especally on the night sky, can someone else confirm this is just this movie and not on the blu ray before I buy it.

Teken 5, whats it like, worth the 19.99?

Nice spelling.

LOL corrected, seriously though, can anyone answer this question. Is it just the downloadable demo or is the Blu ray like this.

Been playing Drake a fair bit, pretty good game, like a modern tomb raider, voice acting is really good, graphics are OK as well, so far its the only decent game iv played on the PS3.

  • F1 demo - pretty damn poor, week graphics as well
  • Startdust demo - Not bad
  • Ninja Gaiden - 1st time I have played any of the series, not overally impressed TBH
  • Everybodys golf - quite fun, nice and easy to pick up and play, but it looks like a PS2 game
  • Ratchet and clank - Looks pretty good again, but bit to lightweight for me.

Oh, i downloaded the movie for Tekken, does it really look that bad!

I think I will complete Drake and then sell it, and then just accept that for now I have just spent £300 on a blu ray player, I have to admit to be pretty shocked at just how week the PS3 is as a games machine from what iv seen, im not trying to start a war here, after I have both machines and im just voicing my opinion. IMO the graphics are weeker, the controller is miles behind, PSN maybe free but XBL is well worth the extra cost.

Im sure the good games will come, just hope they arrive sooner rather than later.

Stardust is really good once you get into it.

Devil may cry 4 is very good

Motorstorm has to be worth a look.

Assians creed ??

Just to name a few , far to excited about getting my mits on prologue to be honest :D

  • Getting Devil May Cry 4 for the 360
  • Will Try motorstorm
  • Got Assians creed for 360

Whats not impressive about Ninja 'freaking impossible' Gaiden?

Did you find the block button yet?

LOL yeh I found the block button, im not saying its crap, it just didnt make me want to go out and buy the thing that's all. Found the camera a pain in the butt and the enemies a bit dull and repetitive. And while the main lead was well modelled, the backgrounds wernt very detailed or complex.

sorry, my mistake, didnt realise Tekken was just a PS2 port, that explains it.

As for everybodys golf, I didnt think neither charectors or backround were that detailed, Im downloading Tigerwoods Demo, I have that for the 360 so I will be able to do a back to back comparrison.

Drake is by far the nicest looking PS3 I have seen, iv been playing it a bit more today, it really is a fun little game. I know im being a picky sod, but I just wanted to be impressed as hell by the PS3 like I was with the 360, and I havnt been.

I have found one thing the PS3 is good at though, playing DVDs, its a very good little machine, at least if not better then my standalone £250 Pioneer one.

I think Drake is one of the nicest looking games this Gen, Not just on the PS3, 360 included. :)

Everyone knows Gears of war as being one of the nicest titles on 360, And I'd rate Drake above it, Not in every aspect mind you.

We will have to agree to disagree there mate, I recently played GOW again, as I havent played it since I made the jump from a 32" HD set to a 42", I was still amazed just what a stunning game to look at it is.
