PS3 Slim b0rked.

Well my step kid and his friend have been playing on it this afternoon for a few hours and the game mortal kombat froze. When rebooting the system the screen with the wave appears but no menu items.

What do I need to do ? I'm in the safe mode menu with the options (restore database) etc. but I'm not sure which one I need to choose without wiping any saved data. I'm only really bothered about my GTA5 data as I really cba starting from scratch again.

Upon subsequent reading it appears my PS3 is now bricked and I tried the 4.46 update via safe mode which gets me to 99 percent and gets stuck there.

The only option I have is to lose my data and reformat, unless anyone knows any different?
 
Have you tired

Restore File System - Attempts to repair all areas on the hard disk drive where files can be saved. Corrupted data may be erased if it cannot be recovered.
Rebuild Database - Deletes messages, playlists, changes made on screens, trimming information for pictures in , video thumbnails, video playback history and video resume information.
 
i had the same problem on my 120 gb slim, turned out to be the hard disk, i changed it and its been fine since :) worth a try
