PS3 Slim Noise ?

I just treated myself to a nice new PS3 slim. It seems i have one of the new models with the 40nm RSX chip as well as the cell. Its a SECH-2103A..

Are the slims meant to be loud. Its as loud as my 360 when playing games the fan really ramps up. My old 80gb was almost silent even after hours of gaming. It chucks out a fair amount of heat as well so its deffinately getting hot inside.

Anyone else with a slim especially this model is yours loud..?

Mine too. The only noise I really get from it is when it's seeking on the disc drive.

Have you got yours in a confined space?

Its on top of a unit so plenty of air-flow..

I,m going to rent a Blu-ray and see how it does with that. Just played the heavy Rain demo and you can hear the fan spinning up and down its marginally quiter than my jasper 360 but only just..

Mine was silent until I bought a new AV Rack to put all my stuff in. With the glass door closed it gets quite warm and the fans kick in, with the door open a slight amount letting some air in it's pretty much silent, definitely much quieter than my old 360 Premium and both of my sisters' Jasper Elites.

I only hear mine when it's seeking, it really shouldn't compare to a 360, nothing should, they make way too much noise for a multimedia device.

I have just got back from town and have swapped the PS3 for another new one. Even the Guy in the shop said it was very loud...

Just getting a brew then will fire this one up and see how it goes..

Lots, this one is far quiter. just a slight hum from this one. Its the same model number so must have just had a bad one first time...

All is good now, Just need to get some games....

Slims are rubbish.

Seek noise is too loud, and the slot loading drive sounds horrid.

Cheap nasty crap.

But are still much quieter than the fats.

This one is so much better than the last, Just played through the heavy rain demo again and the fan speed has not changed at all just a barely auidiable hum. It still pumps out a fair amount of heat... Playing transformers 2 Blu-Ray and its silent...

I personally think the fat looks a bit better than the slim, It does look a bit cheap and tacky in comparrison...

On a related note though, my slims blu-ray drive has become incredibly loud recently.

Nothing beats a shiny launch PS3 with chrome trim, looks and noise wise
