My Ps3 120 GB Slim has suddenly started turning it'self off, It's about 9 month's old & in all has only been used for a mater of 20 hours or so over those 9 month's so you get the idea it's had very little usage. We bought it in September 2009 ( so nearly into winter (mmm..) Am i barking up the wrong tree. We have not used it all summer until a few days ago when we tried to watch a dvd & it was on for a few minutes when there was a (Click) & ps3 had complete power fail no red light complete darkness...... The only way to turn it on again is unplug from the mains. From cold it will stay on longer but when warm it'll only say on for a few minutes sometimes seconds. Cut a long story short we found out we have to go through Sony & not Comet they after 28 days want nothing to do with it ... Sony said no problem we'll send you a reconditiond one/ or refurbished one (mmm .. this sent more alarm bells ringing in my head) no way after telling them i wasn't happy would they repair mine or replace with new ( Please note our Ps3 is in like new condition) Granted it's not working ! Anyway we had to go along with sony & a recon unit turned up next day only to find a mark / scratch on the top ! so we refused it. Now it seems after several phone call's comet are responsible but they want nothing to do with it the only thing to do is accept another recon unit From Sony Help Help me Please.:(

The only way comet will be responsible is if the fault was there when the console was new (thus making it not fit for purpose) then they have to something about it under the sale of goods act (I'm guessing you'll have to pay for a expert to look at the console to see if that was the fact) otherwise they are correct and you have to take it up with sony.

28 days? It's a year with electronics in the UK, no?

Gamestation and every other shop I've bought from allow you to get a replacement within 12 months directly from them or a refund if the product isn't in stock.

I swear they have to give a replacement within the year, sounds fishy I'd get trading standards involved and if I'm right then kick up a fuss.

This is why I never buy anything from comet currys pc world etc all those monopolised shops they are dreadful with customer care and after sales.
Stick to argos game or gamestation or hmv where they actually have customer care.
