PS3 - some game recommendations please!

Just got given one of these for free as part of a mobile phone contract (along with Fifa09 which I promptly traded for £20 trade-in value along with a birthday voucher to get some blu-rays and a cd!)

However, when I was thinking about it, I realised just how few games I could think of that were genuine must haves, especially as I already own a 360, and a lot of the older games were better on the 360 due to poor conversions.

The only games I could really think of were MGS4 (which is meant to be coming to the 360), and perhaps Uncharted. My friend also suggested Killzone 2 and Resistance2 when they come out, but not really the strongest list!

Can anyone suggest more? (RPGs, Action etc a preferance, not into racing that much; only reasons I'd pick up Gran Turismo is the looks!)
 
Got it on the PC, got given it free as part of a work competition at the time!

If Im honest the most use I've had out the PS3 so far has been changing the settings to suit my setup (why oh why Sony didn't include a simple 5.1 not 7.1 audio function I don't know), setting the web browser to have a ...adult... site as a favourite and setting up a PSN account.

Was kinda amazed at how shabby the cabling it came with was as well, yeah its got blu-ray and wireless, but given it's RRP they should have included more than a composite video cable!

PS. If anyone can recommend games that are better (run smoother/look better etc) on the PS3 compared to 360 feel free to recommend those too!

Heavenly Sword - dont have same equivalent style fighting game on the 360. Started playing this again myself. Top notch budget title. You can get it for about a tenner these days
 
I have just got a ps3 with pop resistance 2 and little big planet and am surprised that I have mostly played little big planet .

I am posting this on the ps3 :)
 
Thanks, not a huge fan into racing, and have a copy of Fallout 3 waiting for me on the 360 but I'll keep those other recommendations in mind :)

im in the same boat . i got my ps3 for xmas it came with saints row 2 , lbp , tony hawk and motostorm 2 . sold all bar moto 2 . im thinking of ratchet , resistance 2 but ive never played a fps on console always on pc . are they any good on console .

As for the 5.1/7.1 audio question if you use optical out its only 5.1, HDMI only carries 7.1/5.1, could just use the optical out if its an issue.
 
I've got the audio dealt with by manual options, just seems stupid (like no HD cable) that something like this doesnt have an easy method!

Absolutely grab Uncharted, I got my hands on it last week and loved almost every minute. Sounds great, too :)

Considering that anything available on both I get on 360, I'm kind of in the same boat.


HDMI into the Yam for best results ;)
 
Already done that :) Just had to go through and manually turn off the 7.1 options so the Yam doesn't have issues with blu-ray soundtracks not mapping to the right speakers. (Believe I heard it won't map 7.1 HD audio to 5.1), could be wrong though!

Gonna have a look at that Valkirya, looks interesting.
 
Well found Valkyria on half price £20 whilst having to grab some bits so grabbed that, will play it when my tonsilitus and flu (lovely combo) go and I go home! PS3 games in general seem to be pretty expensive now I look, seems to be a lot more 360 offers, but perhaps that is shops near me!

Lack of quality exclusives has stopped me buying a PS3 so far, doesn't make much sense to buy a PS3 to play games that are readily available on the 360, which I already own. Plus I love the whole achievements thing on the 360 and Xbox Live is awesome.

Once Uncharted 2 and Gran Turismo 5 are out I may consider it, would pick up MGS4, Killzone 2 and Resistance 2 at the same time as well. Funnily, I think Blu-ray is the most enticing thing about a PS3 at the moment, saw some Blu-ray films running on my friends PS3 and they did look pretty amazing.
