Hey,

Just put Yellow Dog on my PS3 and although I think it's amazingly cool to have a fully functional PC sitting "inside" my games console, I'm a bit peeved at how slow the OS feels; most probably owing to the paltry 256MB of RAM.

What I'm wondering is if there any any other Linux distros which are pre-loaded with drivers for the PS3's BD drive, Wifi, Sixaxis, HD res fixes etc. etc. Whilst I do appreciate that PS3 Linux is a rather specialist area, I would have thought the fact that it is a standardised hardware base would make it a good target for a customised release.

Something like a custom built version of Xubuntu would be amazing. I'm a total Linux beginner, unwilling to try it on my PC, but would love to experiment on my PS3 - if only it was a bit faster!!

Cheers,

Suman

P.S. Failing that, could anyone point me in the right direction on how to slim down Yellow Dog so it runs more efficiently?

Haha yeah I'd hit Google and come up with the usual suspects, but nothing on PS3-specific distros.

I'm thinking Xubuntu would be a perfect candidate, after reading this rant. All someone would need to do is add-in the generic hardware driver support and a few small fixes etc. Not that I'd know where to start :p

lol ok... well is there anyway I can slim down Yellow Dog to make it run a little quicker? There's a lot of stuff in the install process I just clicked yes yes yes to :p
