Hey,

Got my PS3 5 weeks ago and been having a blast since then. I was ready to play Uncharted this evening and whacked the disc in per usual and was hit with this message just after the PS3 splash screen and little jingle:

ps3errorih7.jpg

Now I did notice a very small chip on the very outside of the disc and I am guessing because its blu ray and the disc density is very high even a small chip can cause the disc to misread? I have tried RFOM and GT5P and they work fine. I did a google of the error message but found nothing of any interest as people seem to get that error message doing other things such as attaching USB devices  If its the disc I will have to re-buy it I guess as I have got 34% in and am loving it, just fortunate I can find it for £23! :)
I will get a mate to try it on his PS3 tomorrow to see if his can read the disc. Anyone had this error message or know exactly what it means? I had a quick look through the master error list but could not find it listed.

Cheers!

Phone Sony up (their number is in the back of all instruction manuals) and see what they say.

If they can't change it for cheap then I'd recommend a rental as it is only a short game anyway and I wouldn't say it was worth buying for £40 twice.

Had it once i think for a dirty disk, even though it gives a different error code. Best bet would be try to get it repaired first may save you a few pounds otherwise try and call Sony and see if they can help out.

Cheers for the replies guys! I tested the game in a mates PS3 and it started up and ran completely fine  So that proves theres nothing wrong with the disc I guess. If the problem lies my end what could be causing it, as every other game works fine so I don't think its a laser problem.

From what ive read its a failure of the blu ray drive and it happens a lot according to N4g.com

I doubt it very much as it ive had it before and it was a dirty disc also the OP said it works for other games, perhaps you cant see the FUD for the trees lol. Perhaps you shouldn't believe all that you see on "news" sites like that, as a lot of the "news" is from random blog sites.

Im thinkin of a different error called '80010514'

dunno if its right or not

Team xbox -'the ps3 has a a high failure rate on this code due to the bluray drive!! 16%!!!'

Sony -'that code means bad HDD sector and is usually due to a bodged firmware install, stfu TXB'

TXB - ':-( '

They may be but that shouldn't have stopped TXB doing a bit of research before hitting the 'post rubbish' button.

Much like how a certain other news site coughcoughkotakucoughcough should have done 5 minutes of research into the 40% failure rate of the 40gb model news article before posting that up, then they would have found the source to be a post on european xbox forum.

Okay this gets stranger:

I took the disc round a mates and it played fine. I have borrowed his Unchartered disc and it works fine in my PS3. It seems like my version of the game and my PS3 do not like each other yet my disc will work in other PS3's and my PS3 will play other uncharted discs. How VERY annoying.

Just do a secret swap with your mates Disk, your disk works on his and vica versa (prob best to ask him first though lol)

Just got off the phone to Sony Tech Support, Young Indian Chap seems to think its a disc problem despite me telling him it worked fine in 2 other PS3's. He was going to get me Naughty Dogs phone number but they don't appear to have it on their system.....
Bit of a joke to be honest, looks like I will have to re-buy it. :(

Won't your mate do a swap?
I would if a mate had the same problem.

Get your console swapped as a drive error. You can't really lose and being that your disc and your mates disc both work on your mates, but only one disc works on yours, I'd be more inclined to believe it's the drive.
