Hi all,

For a few weeks now my PS3 hasn't been reading disks straight away, I usually had to remove the disk and put it back in a couple of times or turn the PS3 off and back on.

Now it seemed to get gradually worse, played some GT5 tonight, had some tea then came back to the PS3 and it seems to have totally stopped reading disks, spent about 45minutes now trying different disks and rebooting it etc but nothing happens!

Does this happen oftern? I can't browse the web as all I have is the GPRS phone network (it's painful even posting this!)

No point ringing Sony as it's one of the original 60GB ones, probably 3years old now!

Any advice?

OMG it's just loaded FIFA after 1hour of trying.

I think I'd be fine with replacing stuff but I don't want to buy something and replace it for it not to work and the fault be something different

Of course its broken. Buy a replacement laser lens off ebay and watch some youtube's on how to swap over.. Failing that, sell it as broken on ebay and buy yourself a new slim that has a new 12month warranty on it..

First thing to try is, Put a blu ray film in, See what happens. Then put in a DVD and see what happens.

If it is the blu-ray diode the dvd's should still work. More than likely is a replacement laser needed (done them myself) Only other situation that is similar is when the discs aren't recognised and that is a little sensor, But the drive doesn't suck the discs in (Which don't sound like your problem)

I'd say 99.99% it's your laser though.

That wont help, not all of them have 2 lasers, In fact the first ones only have one laser I believe.

The 60gb and some of the 40gb ones had the single laser, they then went over to the two lasers and then changed again for the slims
His is the 60gb so will only have one laser the KES-400A
if you decide to buy the complete blu-ray drive you need to change the blu-ray board over with your one as they are linked to individual ps3, though i would recommend just getting the laser as you pay though the nose for the units

I think I might just buy a brand new PS3 and then sell my current one on ebay as 'Opened once, not always reading disks'

Sound acceptable?

This happened to my brother's PS3 phat.

Bit the bullet and bought a PS3 slim, although you can buy a replacement laser to fix it.. it's not worth the hassle.

Just got a replacement from the rainforest, 160GB one.

I'll flog the faulty one as faulty.

-Sorry maccy.
