PS3 stopped reading disks......

As the title suggest, everything else works fine but its stopped reading game discs, blurays and normal dvd's.

I rang sony who politely informed me my console was out of warranty but that they would kindly replace my 40gb model with a fully factory refurbished exact model for the small charge of.................

£134???!!!!

I mean seriously?! New slims are £200 quid!

Has anyone else experienced this problem and got sony to fix it for free/less?

Buy a replacement mechanism for about £50 or a new laser+rail for aroudn £40. As my ps3 was a launchday 60gb, the warrenty was long gone, so was cheaper to saught it out my self then pay sony.

Yep, exact same problem, just bought a new one for ease and a new warranty (got a 160gb for £177, to replace my 80gb).

Game have got pre-owned 60gb consoles, with Red Dead, for £150 (think they give a years warranty - not sure though).
