Recently bought a Super Slim PS3 12GB along with a 320GB HDD which I'm waiting for (it'll arrive sometime this week.)

After browsing the Playstation Store I decided to buy Okami HD, which according to the product page says it's 6.2GB in size. I click download but get a message saying there's not enough space.

I checked my system information and it says I have 9GB+ free space, which while a little less than I imagined (I know operating system and applications use space) it's still a few gigs more than the size of the game.

Now I'm not too bothered because I've got a new HDD coming, but why is that happening? Does it need so many gigs free as a sort of buffer space?

Well you obviously have enough space for the download, but you also need to install said download. There isn't enough room for both.

That's the problem. :p

Yes, this is one oddity that they need to fix for PSN on PS4. I don't see why you need to download a game package which then needs to be unpacked and installed. It's got nothing to do with compression because the Xbox equivalent is practically the same size and that doesn't need installing.
