Hi guys,

My (phat) PS3 died from the YLOD so I need a new one. I'm not getting another phat and instead want to get either the Slim or Super slim.

I have a spare 250gb hard drive sitting around to go in whatever I get so storage isn't an issue.

My question is, are there any drawbacks to getting the super slim. I heard someone says the CD drive makes a racket. Is this true? Any other gripes people have with it?

The drive can sound a bit loud when the laser is searching, mainly because all there is to shield out the noise is a flimsy sliding bit of plastic.

Kinda depends where you have it set up.

If its under your tv and you're sitting on a sofa a few metres away then I can't imagine it being a issue or annoying anyone.

If its on your desk plugged into your pc monitor then it will probably annoy you.

It would be the former.

It does make a bit of disk seeking noise but thats it, its not as loud as a previous generation 360.

If you're not a perfectionist then it shouldn't really be a problem.

Personally I would (and did) get a pre-owned slim, but then I'm really not a fan of the new design at all, it looks very cheap.
