Just turned on the PS3 this morning and theres an update to version 1.70 (now downloading). Nothing on Sony site so far but have found this.

In what may turn out to be quite a major update, Sony has just released a new firmware upgrade for the PlayStation 3, taking it to version 1.70.

Key new features supposedly included (more on that shortly) are the ability to play original PlayStation software downloaded from the PlayStation Store on your PS3, vibration support for PlayStation and PlayStation 2 games (assuming a compatible peripheral is plugged in), and the ability to transfer PlayStation savegames from the PS3 to the PSP, allowing players to continue their game while mobile.

In principle, some very useful updates, even though it's still a little unclear thus far how Sony is planning to actually deliver vibration in emulated games. Being able to take your game with you and keep playing is sure to keep gamers entertained.

However, not all is peaches and cream. Some comments around the place apparently suggest that you still need to have a PSP plugged in to download PlayStation games in the first place. While the optimist may say this is just an oversight soon to be fixed in another firmware update, the pessimist could argue that it's a case of forced cross-sell - if you want to play PlayStation games from the PlayStation Store on your PS3, Sony says, "Go buy a PSP."

Anyone got a PSP to confirm this?

Seems like at the moment there is only PSP PS1 games in the US/ japan Stores these require you to attach a PSP to the console to download them. This is prob due to the fact the games are for the PSP. Perhaps in todays update Europe will have there own PS1 games to buy that dont need a PSP (maybe wishful thinking).

So how do you connect a DualShock 2 to the PS3 so you can get rumble?

I know you can buy a PS2 controller to PS3 adaptor for £3.99 (dont think i can link it sorry) but i wondered if one of the PC to PS2 adaptors would work also?

while it isn't really that usefull, at least we get it now and don't have to wait 6 months for it like the twice yearly updates from LIVE

I was thinking that, seems to be an update a month so far!! At least there sorting some of the issues out albeit not the ones we may all want doing. Anyone know when the BC list website is updated? as this update has made some more games work.

Is it possible to download PS1 games on PSN now ??

And did they also update wireless compatibility?

Just found this on IGN,

Game Watch reports that a few PlayStation titles will continue to work exclusively on the PSP for the time being. Sony has yet to specify which games will be cross compatible. PS3-ready downloads will begin on 4/26, so we'l have to check the PlayStation Store at that time.

So looks like we have to wait a week before the PS3 PS1 titles are ready, seems strange to wait a week after the update though.

I just read that it now allows you to use the Guitar hero controllers for GH1 + 2, but looks like the non Sony USB adaptors dont work correctly though. Seems like some of the buttons on the fret board are wrong ie green swapped with yellow, hopefully this will be ok when Sony release the official adaptors at some point.
