So the US preorders for the PS3 are all gone it would seem. And already they are selling on Ebay for $2000+. Quite a markup. A similar thing happend if you recall, with the 360.

So firstly, if you had the means would you have brought a US PS3 to flog on the bay? And secondly, would you preorder a few here and sell them at a huge markup after the machine inevitably sells out? Would you feel guilty, or just chuffed at your fat bank balance?

a tell u what if i could make that kind of mark up on them, i deff would and prob will considering it'll be near xmas and the xtra moola would come in very handy for presents and that.

didnt think all the preorders in the US where gone, i didnt think ebgames etc had started taking them, unless they just wont do any online.
I have a chance of getting one, i hope and pray i will get it, but i wont be selling it at all, i will be playing it.

I think most people would try and earn a quick buck, but if I remeber correctly with the 360 there was a bit of a backlash to the profiteering and a lot of people made bogus ebay accounts just to screw with the sellers.
Wonder if the same thing will happen with the PS3.

I had a spare 360 at launch and it sold it as a buy it now for the price I paid,
Think it was just the thought of someone missing out due to the high prices, it was near christmas so guess it was the Christmas Spirit in me :)

Was buying mine simply to sell on ebay. Really wouldn't feel guilty as the huge markup as you put it is down to the bidders and what they want to pay for it. Ebay has a habit of things finding a certain price level when using normal auctions as opposed to buy it.
I have been looking for some GC games the first part of the week and found that they nearly always go for the same price within a quid or two for the same titles.
With the delay though I cancelled, partially because I dont expect to see the prices go as high (based on a percentage of the original cost) as the 360 did without the pre-Christmas rush IMO. Main reason though was to make a "vote with my wallet" so to speak as its time EU was taken as a serious market for console releases, despite Sony thinking that customers dont matter any more to them.

I'm split really. If it was comming out at Christmas I would be a lot more reluctant. While it would most definately sell on the bay, I would be feeling guilty that I have stolen one more chance for little Timmy to get his Christmas present. On the other hand its coming out in March (which I will still put money on that it will be delayed again due to demand in Japan/US) so little Timmy will have already got his 360/Wii Christmas pressie, but then I couldn't be sure it'd shift.

I bought my 360 with the intention of flogging ot on ebay.

You can see how well that plan worked :D

I bought an xbox 360 for myself and to sell on eBay, It went for £530 thus me having a free xbox 360, a lot of people called me names some where explicit but I would do it again, my mate says hes got hold of 10 JAP PS3s from an import comany and hes selling them all on eBay, but I think its a lot of hassle 1 or 2 but 10

Me and some collegues were planning to pool our resources and get as many as possible, but we were too slow. Plus as I mentioned before I had my reservations about doing it.

Still, seriously considering it now.

Buying consoles and selling them on ebay isn't any different from the shop buying the consoles from the manufacturer and selling them.

Personally I think it is a bit immoral to buy a console with no other intention of selling it on for a huge mark-up. I mean there are obviously people out there that genuinely want the console for themselves and you are inflating the cost for them.

In saying that though, I am very tempted to max my credit card out on PS3s and sell them on the bay if it is released in small quantities over here. Could be a nice little earner that could fund my HDTV

At the end of the day there are people out there that earn £50-100k a year and NEED to have a PS3 first, they are stupid, they cant wait 3-6 months for restock, they are the mugs and why not take some of there cash aswell.

There are also parents on the dole in the middle of a divorce that need "to buy some love"TM.
