Hi all,

I've got a major problem and hope you guys can help. I've got a PS3 coming in a couple of days but don't own a HDTV, I'm happy to play it through my DELL 2407 which ran my old XBOX360 beautifully, the only problem is video connectors.

I have no idea what the PS3 comes in the box but I'm guessing it's the standard 3-way Phono cable that we are accustomed to. When I had the 360 I bought the official Microsoft VGA HD cable which came with a handy PC Audio jack so that I could run the audio through my PC Sub Woofer, but I'm struggling to find anything similar for the PS3?

Does anyone know what product will be suitable? I'm guessing I will need to go down the Component Route or can I somehow split the HDMI audio to the sub woofer? I'm really confused. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Does the PC subwoofer have an optical input? For video you could use a HDMI > DVI cable.

Otherwise I'd probably component. Probably not a great deal of difference between 1080i and 1080p that you'd notice.

I don't have opticals on the sub just the standard 3.5mm PC jack which the 360 VGA cable catered for so well. I'm really stuck for ideas?????

Well if you use component you will have the 2 audio jacks that you can use the phono to 3.5mm adapter (the same as the 360 uses) to get your sound.

Any PS2 component cables work iirc.

OK that sounds reasonable, I just need to get the 3.5mm jack from somewhere :D

Does anyone know if there are any issues with Blu-Ray/HDCP compatibility issues when using Component?

At this point in time, the ICT (Image Constraint Token) has not been implemented on Blu-ray or HD-DVD. What this means is that you can watch it on any connection.

You only get HDCP over HDMI or DVI (digital connections), it won't apply to component.

If you try to watch a film in the future (circa 2012 they are saying ICT will begin) then you will need a HDCP connection or else the disc will default to 480p / 576p (current DVD settings).
