360 has no region locks in place. Some of the games do but not the console.

I am assuming that the PS3 games will all be region free, otherwise it is totally moot if the console itself is region free but the games aren't!

I guess thats why they did it then. They needed something different from the competition and that did it. They might have also looked at the popularity of Xbox360 games that are multi-region.

i wonder if that firmware hack thats out can make it region free? Would be interesting if MS do anything.

I dont see the excitement with region free as i never get anything from else where any ways but its kool they are doing that makes a change and a step in the right direction. Although would it be down to developers if they wanted games region free?

Because region locks for games and movies are different.

It won't make any difference. That just removes the check that the disk is legitimate apparently, apart from that there will be no change.

Unless they manage to work some extra magic.

I just mean they already bypassed MS checks so making it region free couldnt be to tricky? I mean must stand alone players can be made region free

But if the console is region free any game will work on it as how is the game going to tell what region you're in! And if the game developers only made their games work with Region 1 consoles and all consoles are region free how is anyone going to play the game...

err isnt that pretty much what the xbox 360 is? the console is region free but some of the games arnt?? or so i have understood from the above posts??
