ps3 to wireless router

To save me reading the instructions lol

Do i need a Lan cable to set up the ps3 to thomson speedtouch.

Im lost in the ps3 menu, im used to the PC.

any pointers.

The PS3 has WiFi built in, why would you need a cable?

If you mean do you need to connect it by cable to be able to set up the wifi then no, just scan for your network, enter security key and bingo.
