PS3 Trouble-Shooting

evening fellas, just back from buying a 2nd hand PS3 80GB, was bought on 5th Jan, got it home and it doesnt seem to work for me, tried it all, used parents hd tv with the hdmi cable and it played but with no sound and then used mine through scart and it's not picking it up at all.

what am i doing wrong lol?

Try holding down the power button till it beeps a few times, I think that resets the display settings.
