well guess thats my console gaming over with until the ps4 hits now.

had it on for 10 mins and it knocks it self off, so no more ps3 for me.

Have you checked Google for any potential fixes? I'm at work so I can't follow this URL, but the title sounds like it could be what you're having.

yeah, looked over a few sites and they all say the same thing about it being heat related. problem is all i was doing wast watching netflix for less then 10 min's and it wasnt warm when i touched it. so its dead by the looks of it.

Sounds like YLoD. Same thing happened to me, was watching video streamed from my NAS and it died.

The heatgun fix often works, I managed to revive mine for just long enough to get my data off it, but it the end I bought a new console.

yeah, for now il just have to stream from the pc and wait for the ps4 to hit. no point buying another p3 now with 6 months or so to wait.

well i can hook the pc directly to the plasma, so im not missing much tbh. just more of an annoyance than anything else.

Take it apart and check the heatsinks are not clogged up with dust and that all the fans are spinning/working....

As I seem many PC heatsinks get completely cogged with dust within a few months..

thanks for the advice guys but had the hdd out and that was actually very clean, was expecting that to be caked in dust. but as iv said above i was only watching netflix for less than 10 mins from power on and it crapped out. so very doubtfull its heat build up especially as id been on it for 6 hours the day before with no issues.

had something similar when i did get the YLOD a couple of years ago, one day fine and then beeeeep.

as for your heat sink chapparal, you really need to clean it more often, mines done every 3-4 months for reference btw.

Chapparal, why is your dust orange?
Maybe it was the camera setting making it look orange..

(Can't remember what it looked like before I cleaned it..

I normally do clean the inside of my pc's every few months..

But it been to dark or wet most days after finishing work over the winter to take the PC outside to blow them down with my air Compressor

Don't heatgun it you are only going to make it irrepairable.

Have it reballed/reflown it will cost ~£40 for a proper reflow and £50-60 for a reball.

If it was mine i would just replace the GPU myself.
