PS3 updates.

Just got hold of a PS3 and connected it to tv internet etc. Got hold of a copy of fifa 10 just to mess about till the new one comes out. anyway it requires an update of 39mb's. Not a problem except the fact its going to take about 3 hours to do, Is it normally that slow??

No, but you cancel the update if you're not going on line.

Must be your connection or the servers they keep updates for old games on are running off a gameboy.

There was a system update too, i ended up doing that via a usb stick

Its not good, looking like i may revert back to the Xbox.

Connection is 5mb and laptop works fine just the PS3 updates seem way too slow

It happens on all platforms. I've had times when its been slow and times when I get 800-900kb's top speed.

I had trouble with slow updates today, first I tried COD4 took ages so I gave up then the same thing with LBP2. Normaly they are much faster

Could be, but I have a realy slow connection and it doesn't take anywhere near that time to download updates

One thing I will say though, is downloading stuff off PSN always seem faster then the game and system updates for me..

Well i gave up on it last night, trying again this morning and the fifa 39mb update is going to take 709 minutes at the moment. This is a little ridiculous!

Before now I've tried to download a game patch via my internet connection (5mb ADSL) and it said 400 minutes for a 120mb file I think. I wirelessly hooked up to my phones hsdpa connection and it was done in 15 minutes.

It's varies all the time just like most download services.

It's not a problem with the PSN, I'm only on a 5MB connection and all my downloads through the PS3 are quite rapid (for my connection), usually at least 500 KB/s.

LIttle bit of an udate, I plugged in an ehternet cable after restoring factory settings and with the cable plugged in all is as expected. I know the router is fine with wireless as my laptop uses it with no problems. Is there something worng with the wireless card in the PS3?
Is there anything i can do to sort this problem out?

You could download the update straight from the PS3 website onto a USB stick and update you PS3 that way.
