PS3 updates.

It's not the firmware updates, it's just the ones when you insert a game and it says there is an update for the game. Using wireless the fifa 10 update took 15 minutes ( after it said 3345 minutes the night before) with the ethernet cable it took 80 seconds..

Oops, sorry misunderstood!

Never had any problems with my PS3 downloading stuff, and had the old fat 60GB PS3 and now have the slim one.

In fact, I'm downloading now ;)

What you can do, is do a network test, and at the very bottom, it tells you download/upload speed.

Check that out.

I do find the PS3 updates stuff much, much slower than the 360.

I'm always wired. Actually yesterday I took possesion of a new additional PS3, to add to the collection, which entailed having to download all my PSN games, and all of the updating that go with all the disc based games.. All in all it was well over 30gig. I got all the main stuff downloaded over night and currently doing the disc based games one by one. My consistent d/l speed is about 1.5mb/sec

it actually takes longer to setup a PS3 than it does your home computer these days.

I wonder how the 360 can get away with such little updating, compared to the PS3 ? Anyone know the answer to that?

Is this the internet connection test?
I've tried that and it obtains ip address
Connects to internet.
But the 3rd one where its trying to connect to playstation network, it fails every time and wont go no further :(

I'm really confused by this now, i want to get this sorted ready to start playing online.

I heard once its because MS won't allow it, if its bigger then about 20mb or so it goes on a seperate download like Marketplace content (like the BFBC2 Vietnam update)

Right then for the first timne ever its done the full test..
Download is @ 836.9 KBPS
Upload @ 613.5 KBPS

I think it just varies sometimes that's all. I've had PS3 since 2007 launch and occasionally it takes forever to download. If it's a game update just press 'circle' to cancel it until the speeds back up.
I've currently got a Slim and a 60GB launch model and the Slim is certainly faster for downloads. However, the 60 GB seems slightly quicker on loading times.
Compared to my 360, it does appear to have slower download speeds, but then it's not fair comparison because I use ethernet with 360 and wireless with PS3.

Also, i think there is more to update on the PS3 than the 360 as there is simply more to it.
Mind you, I hate all this update rubbish, it's making developers sloppy and almost every single game now has glitches until patched. I suppose old games had them too like if you think back, and they couldn't be patched so it's not all bad.
