PS3 => USB audio adapter ?

Having looked over a few usb headsets I starting thinking about whether the PS3 would accept a USB audio adapter to allow a headset with 3.5mm plugs to be attached.

Googling I have found one post on one forum saying it worked but the adapter is not named, only pictured, and it looks like a generic unit from the bay. This is not utterly convincing evidence.

So my question is, having paused over the buy button on several of these *just to see if it works*, has anyone tried using one of these adapters on a PS3 ? / got one lying around they could try ?

If i were you, i'd just play it safe and get a logitech vantage USB headset, they can be had for less than £20 and work perfectly on the PS3. The more people that buy these the better.

Completely ignoring Streeteh's sensible advice I bought a cheap usb audio adapter, perhaps a little too cheap as it just made horrific crackling noises for thirty seconds then snuffed it leaving a hot worthless lump of plastic.

Not being deterred by this message from God I trawled around and found the Plantronics 610 USB monaural headset, the interesting thing about this one (amongst others) being it has 3.5mm plugs and comes with a usb audio adapter instead of being just a USB lead. (also has a nice long 2.9m cable and only costs £12)

Whilst I haven't been able to test it in game yet the PS3 recognises the adapter that comes with this headset fine and it seems to work in the audio setup. I also swapped the headset to a stereo one I had lying around and it works fine also.
Not counting my chickens till I've tried it in a game but looks good so far.
