Getting my lad a PS3 for Christmas. Can anyone confirm that you can play media connected to the USB ports?

Eg audio (MP3) tracks on a USB stick, movie backups on an external HDD

Thanks

Thanks. I bought a Sony BDP-S350 expecting the USB port to work fully like all other DVD players I have, only to be blown out :( It's limited to BD live downloads only and firmware upgrades.

Streaming may well be option at a later date. Gives me something to investigate :)

Cheers

I've not done this myself (I stream direct from my PC), but I believe you can, as long as the drive is FAT32 formatted.
That does limit the size of files you can store, so it depends if you're thinking of using it for full length HD movies.
If I'm wrong then I'm sure someone will correct me.

How do you stream from the PC? When I try it just searches for media servers for ages!
You need to 'allow' sharing to the PS3 in Media Player, then it should pick up the server. You can also use TVersity, which will transcode any unsupported formats, but I used to find that a bit choppy with HD content.

Sadgeek ye can play MP3, Divx so on from a USB Stick

Just make Folders on the Root Dir Called MUSIC and Video

stick ya MP3 or Divx in the right folder and play easy as pie
