Now i know it currently isn't out, but is it likely we'll ever see any VGA cables for the PS3? reason being although i dont have one now, i would like to purchase a PS3 in the next 6 months probably. Currently im running my 360 through the VGA port of my monitor (with my PC through DVI) I cant afford to buy an HDTV just for PS3 (being a poor student and all) is there another way to get the PS3 to output to VGA?

The only way that you could do it mate is to buy a component to vga adapter and depending on what kind of resolution your monitor support would be able to give you 720p. This however is not cheap - boxes which are decent start from £40 upwards.

Ok i've just seen a HDMI to DVI cable on a competitor site, if i used this how would i get sound though? ideally id use my logitech Z5500's.

What monitor do you have at present mate, because to use a HDMI to DVI converter your monitor MUST be HDCP compatible. IIRC the Z5500's are optical? The ps3 has an optical connector :)

You can use composite, or the digital audio output.

There is a hdmi ->vga adaptor that will allow 1080i/1080p on a suitable size screen if required. dont need to worry about hdcp compatabilty as as far as the device is concerned the display is 100% compatable.

damnit, i dont see why sony cant bring one out, surely they must have seen how popular it was on the 360

I'd agree Sony should have supported monitors, but tbh HDTV's are getting cheaper & cheaper + I don't think Sony were considering people having the console in their bedroom which is a mistake IMO..

I have an NEC NEC LCD20WGX2 20.1 inch. So is the optical sound port attached to the video cable like on the 360? or seperate? and would i have problems with resolution as i wouldn't have the dashboard options like i do on the 360? or would it just do 720p?

and yeah HDTV's are getting cheaper but i already have a monitor, and as im a student all my equipment is setup in my bedroom, maybe once i graduate i'll get an HDTV but just cant afford it now.

my PS3 test kit has a VGA cable for it.. and works a treat. So no reason why the same cable wouldnt work on a retail kit.

Aye there was matey but its not compatible fully with the PS3 :( And the Linux dev kits for the PS2 are rare to find :(

It didn't work with any games on the PS2 really.

Hi there.

Just a quick reply, as I'm away at the moment, but found myself near an internet connection, and thought I'd have a quick look at the forums ;)

I have my PS3 connected to my TV via HDMI, but also to my projector via VGA, using the cable discussed in this thread.

I'm not sure if that'll be of any use to you, as I'm not sure where you can get one from, the bay maybe. I got mine from my brother, who had the Linux kit on his PS2. Works fine on my PS3 though, have played a few games, and a bluray on it.
