Hi guys, I was pondering a PS3 in the future when it comes down in price and has more games. I've noticed there doesn't seem to be any way of connecting to a VGA TFT? I have a belinea 22" and if I can't hook it up to that I'll never get one anyway.

Seems a bit of an oversight on sony's part? Particularly with the 360 support. Or am I missing something?

Yeah but no one uses VGA though?

You can use a DVI-HDMI adaptor though i think?

Nope, sony have been rather dim in this regard.

Que the "But no one uses VGA" brigade.

Didn't think I was that dumb :p

It seems like a huge thing to miss out - imagine how many people must play 360s on their pc displays? Wow

Havnt read thread.

Only if the DVI socket is HDCP compatible.

The only way to get vga out of the ps3 would be some kind of convertor for the component output. Though I vaguely remember a device in development called the HD fury (?) which takes an hdmi input, strips the hdcp and outputs to vga.

I would get it straight away. VGA really is a popular medium, and can you really be surprised at that? The consoles go best with high definition displays, of which PC monitors and such are the cheapest and most commonplace medium. Most people who buy consoles already have a HDTV set in the form of their desktop monitor, which is why the demand for VGA cables is so high. It's really not surprising at all that VGA cables are popular.

Sony has definitely been short-sighted in this regard - hell they don't even pack HDMI cables with the console!

But it requires HDCP which isn't available on most models of monitor.

The digital output requires HDCP you mean?
Yeah, a mate of mine tried a PS3 on his older HDTV with a HDMI-DVI cable, and can only get 576p from it.

The VGA cable comes from the MultiAV out, not the HDMI socket.
My projector certainly doesn't have HDCP, and even if it did, this isn't sent via VGA anyway?

Either way, using the VGA adaptor I can play games and watch DVD/bluray on my projector.

So true.

Everytime I say to someone that the ps3 should have had vga, I get loads of people saying that no one uses it, and that it is criminal to complain about it, when all they have to do is a forum search to see loads of people use it.

I would say that was the HDMI gang. You know, the ones who are so uninformed that they swear it's the most important change in technology since resistors.

I cant believe this

I had no idea the PS3 didn't support VGA output. I have no tv and run my 360 through my monitor, i was planning on getting a ps3 in 6-12 months time when some games come out and hopefully the price drops, i really hope they sort out this unbelievable shortcoming soon :(
