PS3 vs 360 : A developers POV

Absolutely agree with this. It's gonna be quite a while before Sony catch up with MS imo, but when any console is released it takes a few years to fully realise it's potential sales wise and this will be especially so for the PS3 because of it's launch price. I dont think lack of big titles will hurt it too much just as long as there are plenty of games on the shelves. Historically there's always been a games glut upon launch of a console and the games which do come out are usually beefed up last gen titles or tech demos.

Assuming they catch up then...

AAA titles sell systems for sure, i disagree with you on your point of AAA titles not being that important as long as theirs a half decent choice or reasonable games.

Take GOW 3 million sales in 10 weeks.

Prior to Christmas 360 would have had approx 7 million installed users so assuming no-one bought the console specifically for or with GOW over Christmas that would have meant approx 50% of all 360 owners purchased GOW, not likely...

GOW was a serious system sellar, it could easily of helped push as many as a million systems already...

Just makes you wonder what Halo 3 Forza 2 a few other Microsoft exclusives may do for new owner sales...

You seem to be unaware the amount of people on AVF that complained regarding the launch of their 46x 1080p HDTV only to find it displayed via SD and poorly configured in many stores and that was with a 4k product.
Their stores are not renowned for their brilliance although im sure some flagship stores and certain branches are better than many across the country.
The consoles not going to sell in amazing numbers until its price drops or at least titles like MGS etc appear. Only a small percentage actually care or want for Blu Ray at this time this was even the case with the USA launch so i dont expect any miracles over here where its going to cost even more.

The tv set in question is just that, one of many tv's - its nothing like the ps3 in regards to the importance to Sony of an individual product.

I would guess that there will be specific instructions as to how to set up the PS3 to its optimum

I would also agree that in general maybe the stores arent great in their setup of equipment.

You can only guess at how well it will sell or not, maybe the PS name will sell a lot more even considering the price - at the end of the day it may well be an expensive console but it isnt just a console (unlike the X360 core or premium packs)

Actually given the uptake of HDTV's (and Sky HD) I think people are a lot more bothered by Hidef sources or all kinds in this country - remember this is a lot newer over here than in the US, so maybe over there its a case of " yet another hidef source" whereas over here its much more peaking the interest.

PS3 more important, thats doubtfull imo because on a store level they probably make £800 profit on a 1080p Tv like the 46x, profit on a PS3?

Also connecting the PS3 at its best requires a HDMI which it is more than likely it will not include and the moranic staff who usually dont give a damn or havnt a clue will just connect it via what cable is supplied and the manual shows.

Besides even if connected via HDMI do you really think many of the stores show the tv on actual configured settings, very few is the answer they prob have contrast to MAX and something simular to default settings...

It will sell to AV fans probably quicker than an average gamer looking a cool console definately a bargin as a Blu Ray player and getting a console to boot, but demand for this depends on what titles will be available on the format which currently isnt the best selection, is it and i mean both movies and games... Well personally i see it more as a great movie machine than a must have console at this time but thats just me...

If Sony would have had Blu Ray released last year and the format built up with a great collection of movies i really think PS3 chances would be a lot better...

I cant see this happening - I am sure Sony will make sure its being shown off to the best of its capabilities, its not like its just any other product
But it is. Infact, it's a lot cheaper than a lot of Sony's other products. A Sony Center will make more money from selling 1 television for £3,000 than one £400 Playstation3 and as they generally don't even have their Televisions set up correctly then it is more than likely that the Playstation3 won't be set-up correctly too.

You seem to forget, these none-gaming stores are selling products as a 1-off sale, they see no money back from selling future games, so £3000 is more tempting than £400. Remember when the Xbox360 was put into pods in gaming shops, even those weren't setup correctly in the vast majority of stores, so if a gaming store can't setup a games console properly what chance do a Sony store have. And by way of fact, I can speak of how poor the knowledge and setups of items in the Sony Centers are.

Just laughssssssssssssssss

How can you seriously compare a £400 purchase to something nearly 10 TIMES as much. In relative terms a PS3 will just walk out the door compared to the time it takes most people to invest in something costing £3000

There will be vastly more inquiries about the PS3 than any top-of -the-line TV

I can also vouch for some Sony Centres setting up things totally correctly :D

Time will indeed tell

Frank you totally miss the point on what effect actual Sony stores will have on sales, i wouldnt say walking out the door is what it will be like, certainy after the initial release calms down...

Sales of PS3 will not be that high in Sony AV stores as they will be in typical game or nationwide chain stores. The simple reason is all the big stores will offer bundle deals with games or accessories at discounted rates, Sony stores arnt setup for this to the same extent.

One area they can benifit is selling a PS3 with a TV etc to a customer and offering their finance or additional warrenty, effectively allowing a customer to spread the cost of their purchase, they dont need to have all the money right away.

Britain is the buy now worry later king of Europe
