PS3 Warranty

Looking at getting a ps3 and have seen a 2nd hand one for a good price.

Do you have to send off a warranty card for the 12 month guarentee or i it automatically added going from the manufacture date of the console or something similar?

If you had to send it off for warranty work is it like the 360 where you send it off to sony??

Would you need to show proof of purchase i.e a receipt?

You never have to send anything off to activate a 12 month warranty. You can register your PS3 if you want, but apart from a load of annoying spam-like emails I've yet to find a real reason to do it!

They will ask for a receipt but you might not need one as they are able to tell roughly how old it is from the serial number and sometimes can even find out where and when it was purchased.

Sony customer support is fantastic. They will probably honour the warranty even with no receipt or even if its a few months out of warranty. They will pick it up directly from your door and swap it there and then for a new one.
