Lost!
I've had my PS3 for ovre a year now, i have a handful of games that i play from time to time and occasionally use it for blu ray.

I know PS3's are sold as multi-function everything system - so what am i missing, what else can i do with my PS3????

Couldn't list everything but I do/did these:

Browse the web
Watch/record TV (PlayTV)
Stream Media to it (Film, Music and pictures)
Installed Linux on it
Remote Play with the PSP (great feature!)
Folding@Home

Download media or stream media from a PC, Browse the Internet, look at/store/organise photogaphs, and i'm sure people will add more than that...

I have all my media on my PC, about 5,000 songs 100's of movies or TV shows and thousands of photos, i use PS3 Media server to connect my PC to my PS3 and watch every thing on TV via the PS3.
As others have said you can browse the net with it but i find it a bit annoying and if youve downloaded the latest update there is a new fancy photo viewer available.

I recently got a PS3 and am frankly amazed by how much there is to do with it. Just for total starters, the web browser is brilliant for viewing the iplayer and youtube etc. The fact you can zoom right into the video until it is completely full screen makes it perfect for this sort of thing.

I also use it to watch my dvds as the upscaling is just brilliant. I had Troy on last night and I swear it looked like blu-ray at times.

No one has mentioned PS3 Home yet either. I really love it! Whenever I go on it I just get chatting to people for ages. It's def best if you plug in a USB keyboard too.

I didnt know that the PS3 upscaled???

How do i put photos on it, can i "get" them from my NAS box or do they have to be stored on the PS3?

Isnt playtv an add on??? And i dont have a psp.

I have to admit ive not even worked out how to play games online against or with other people!!!!

The PS3 upscales very well. :)

You can copy photos with a USB drive, or stream them if you have your NAS setup right.

I've a feeling the photo album application (for fancy slide shows and naff) requires locally stored photos.

PlayTV is an addon, but you asked what the PS3 is capable of, and now you know. ;)

This is true - i did ask what it is capable of, i must admit most of it seems pretty pointless when you have a PC but its interesting to know - i'm sure there must me more i can do with it??

Has anyone managed to use the massively powerful cell processors for anything useful, perhaps turn it into a remote render farm for my 3D work or somthing???

I use mine as a paperweight, thats the best use i have found for mine.

Yay! A troll.

True, it is all mainly stuff you can do with a PC, but I tend not to want to watch films on a monitor, and being able to browse and watch my film collection is a great feature for me.

As to using the processors to their most, I'm not entirely clued up on it. I know folding@home makes pretty good use of them, but there's no way to run or write your own applications appart from in Linux, which I've a feeling doesn't have access to all the processing power.

printer sharer!!

The other day I realised that it can print to my wireless HP printer (wasted a piece of photo paper testing it!!).

Nice touch, although I cannot imagine anyone with a wirleess printer without a PC somewhere. I am assuming you can print form the web browser as well which could be useful also.

out of interest, can you print to a shared printer on a pc? Not sure I ever will but would be interesting to know...

Doubt it, I think it only saw mine as it had it's own IP on the WLAN so maybe broadcasting, in some way. I doubt a locally attached printer would do this?

I didn't know the PS3's could browse the web... Are they able to have features like Flash player for certain sites etc?
