Hello,

Just had Virgin Media 10Mb Fibre Optic intalled and they supply the small black router and a NetGear WGR614v9 running firmware, V1.0.11_1.0.1VGUK

I run the PS3 internet set up wizard, select wireless network enter "WPA-PSK [TKIP]" key that's 13 characters long letters and number (should be fine right ? or should it be WEP only ???

Signal strength said 32% could this be a problem ??

I managed to add the network to the PS3.

However when i test the internet connection in the menu, the PS3 keeps timing out on exchanging key information ????

Any ideas ???

Thanks Ben

So the PS3 finds the router but fails to get an address.
- Are you 100% sure the router has WPA protection turned on and the password is correct?
- Give the PS3 a fixed IP like 192.168.2.199
- After a fixed IP put the IP/PS3 in the DMZ of the router
- Temporarily disable the router Firewall to see if that helps
- You can also try to change the NAT type (long shot)
- Also temporarily disable WPA and see if you get a connection without WEP/WPA, if you do that is the problem

You need to set the WPA key on the router first and then use that key to connect the PS3.

@PaulyD, I think WPA isn't a fixed length, I have 8 digits

Thanks for the replies :)

Ok got the PS3 to see the router, i tried in the DMZ and that worked fine, then i took it out the DMZ and it worked fine lol

On the PS3 connection test now it goes down to the connection speed test and fails with "your router does not support IP Fragments ????

Problem after problem lol :(

Everything else on the test is fine now, gets IP, PSN OK, NAT type 2.

Any ideas on the IP Fragments ??

Thanks Ben

Hello,

Right been looking at the MTU, its set on the router to 1500.

Tried a few different guides to find the correct MTU setting for my router but it wont work, on the phone now to Virgin to hopefully find out what the MTU should be set to for my connection.

I am starting to think all my problems are just related to the wireless signal not being good enough :(

Plug the router in its great, have the PS3 next to the router 100% signal its great (well failed test once out of ten)

Move the PS3 back to the bedroom and it wont even connect wireless now lol

Do netgears have weak wireless strength ?

Thanks Ben

I have a new PS3 Slim and it seems to work with my Sky wireless for the first week but now it will then it won't then it will etc! Its doing my head in!

It just says error exchanging information or something then you try it later and it works!

I have the same router as you and my MTU is set to 1500 and my PS3 works great, can be a little slow at downloading from the PSN but that is just a virgin problem, Xbox live goes lightning fast

*edit* on a side note, I did flash my router with standard non virgin firmware the day I got it
