I changed my router security from WEP to WPA after I was told that WEP is just so insecure, but now my PS3 refuses to connect to the wireless router!

Its a netgear DG834G with the latest 1.30 firmware. I can get my MacBook, iTouch and pc to connect to it, the PS3 just won't have it. Any Ideas please, I'm getting very annoyed! :mad:

UPDATE:

WEP works fine, my wpa passkey is 8 digits, why does it work fine with everything except my PS3 arrrghhh

Hi mate, your not by your self.
I did also have this problem but couldn't find an answer so I decided to use MAC filtering + assigning IP address on all the devises and the router itself. In the end I have decided to use WEP, I am using 128 BIT passkey and I have also hidden the Broadcast Name (SSID) for extra protection.
I have also made the static IP of the PS3 a Default DMZ Server allowing it to use all ports (made my connection NAT2 from NAT3).
From what I know this would be almost impossible to hack Wirelessly as the MAC filtering is enabled(only allowing specific devises to connect). Only a direct connection would be able to gain access.
Oh and by the way, always make sure you have changed the routers password so its not the default:

Username: admin
Password: password

At a hunch (from using netgear ADSL routers extensively), are you running "g mode"? I think you have options for "mixed b/g" mode (under "wireless settings"). Try that first and stick to your WPA. Just a hunch...

WEP is easily cracked, MAC addresses can be cloned with relative ease, if you know what you are doing.

If they don't know the SSID it will make it harder.
but to be honest I don't think anyone would go through the trouble of all that if the are any unprotected networks around. Anyway WPA can be hacked as well so with wireless your never really safe(that's the risk). If someone wants to get in they will eventually...

For sure, my point was try my simple suggestion before dropping to WEP and reducing your security.

Thanks for the help. My router is in b/g mode.
If I can't get it working soon. then WEP and static IP's for each of my wireless devices seems like my only option. Sony need to sort this out soon. WEP has been proven to be quite useless, yet you cant use WPA :(

WPA works fine with my PS3.
 
Ive got the same router but with v 1.02.28 firmware its currently using WPA and has always worked fine for me ( apart from the router crashing ). Ive got my PS3 setup in the Wireless Station Access List and it seems fine. I use WPA-PSK (Wi-Fi Protected Access Pre-Shared Key) the mode is set to auto 108MBPS, Enable Wireless Access Point Allow Broadcast of Name (SSID) are both enabled wireless isolation is not, hope thats some help to you.

Actually you have a DG834GT (he has the DG834G).

Original Poster: Are you able to switch to just "g-mode" then (or do you have b devices on your network).

Also I noticed you say you are using 1.30 firmware (which means you have DG834 V1 or V2), that is the oldest firmware available!!

Version 4.01.30 is my firmware, the latest for non USA units and its a version 3
I will have another mess around tomorrow, but I think the 'fault' lies at sony's door.

My router is fine for 2 pc's, a macbook and an iTouch. The PS3 only connects in WEP or no security mode.
 
I might phone the netgear premium rate support number tomorrow, see if they know of issues with PS3's. If they tell me its a common problem with the PS3 then at least I can stop wasting my time and switch to WEP then buy another router!
