Hey guys, my PS3 has just broke and i'm pretty sure its just the Blu Ray drive that is broke.

Checked around ebay and they have a lot of working PS3 drives for sale.

Is it as straight forward as changing the drives around? Or do i have to take other things into consideration?

Thanks.

I've had two PS3 consoles do this, each time Sony Customer care replaced mine for free..!!

The last one was a few days ago, and I didn't shout that much just demanded to speak to a supervisor and after 10 mins they'd agreed to send me a replacement FOC..

Try calling Sony Customer services first if out of warranty - you never know they might send you a replacement. Its a very well known fault...

Easily fixable using video guides found on youtube - did this with mine a year or two back. Think you can buy them on the 'Bay for less than £50 now.

You must get the right drive for your system! But other than that it's very easy to do. It's a few screws and ribbon cables, just need a steady hand.

When you say the right drive? I presume its as straight forward as Model number matching?

My fat PS3 is still working fine but if the blu-ray drive broke, I'd sell it as faulty on ebay and buy a slim. It might seem wasteful but I'd probably get £40 for it, you can buy a slim currently for £196 (i've seen them new as cheap as £159) so if you knock off the price of a replacement blu-ray drive and the ebay sale, it costs about £100.

If you change the drive and then get YLOD, you haven't gained much apart from a lot of hassle. That's what I would/will do. Also, I'd really enjoy a new console being delivered but I wouldn't enjoy having a disk-drive arrive.
