PS3 wont read PS3 games

You sure it's not really a PS2? Sorry had to ask :)

On a more helpful note it sounds like the blu-ray lens may have died, don't think it's used on PS2 games so that may the reason why.

I googled this and whilst the spelling, grammer, and use of the caps to shout is a bit off. The suggested fix the person gave was very plausible as I think I can remember reading it fixed others with in game issues..

I found a solution to this problem i fixed my ps3 over nite, and i would like to help out, i have the 80gb and after days of research i realized that the problem is in your hard drive, its corrupted whether it gives you the error or not, at first i DIDNT think this was the problem since it never gave me an error but when i went to the reset screen (or how ever is called) by holding the power key down till it beeped three times and went to option RESTORE FILE SYSTEM and after that it said the system files were corrupted and would be restored and fixed but after doing so no matter how many times i chose that option it would always say files were corrupted. dont SEND IT BACK TO SONY, dont GET ANOTHER ONE,
WARNING!!!!!! THIS WILL ERASE EVERYTHING FROM UR hdd SO DO A BACK UP OF UR GAME SAVES

Found this on the PS3 boards maybe easier to read than the above. Point 3 is what the above person was suggesting
1) Trying installing the latest system software update (which can be downloaded directly from the network or you can download the file from www.playstation.com.au

2) Trying restoring the default settings. (This can be found under system setting on the PlayStation 3 settings menu). Be aware that this WON'T remove the content from your HardDrive. Be sure that you selecting Restore Default Settings AND NOT Restore PS3 system.

3) The final suggestion would be to perform a soft reset. When the PlayStation 3 system is in stand by mode (the red stand by light). What we need you to do is hold your finger down on the power button consistently for two beeps instead of one beep. When the second beep is triggered, lift your finger from the power button & the main menu should come up.

If you still find the PlayStation 3 system is struggling with reading your games, we would recommend contacting the support team while you have your PlayStation 3 system set up so that we can discuss a solution with you.

My bro's PS3 has had the same problem. His is the 60GB version. He's on his third one now.
Just rung sony and they said I could either get it replaced with another 60GB version with 4 usb and BC for PS2 games or have a 160GB version instead.Hmmmmmmmmm......160GB please!:D

It is annoying that PS2 games can't be played any more, it's also annoying that games are region locked on PS2, I'm always worried while playing imported games on my NTSC PS2 that it will break and I will be screwed =[

*********** sell 2nd hand PS2s for about £30, I know it's extra money but it's not a lot and it'll mean you can play your PS2 games.

All the *********** around here smell of sweat and have sticky carpets. :(

I really want to play through Gran Turismo 3 again, I'll have to dig my old PS2 out from somewhere.

No competitors sell 2nd hand PS2s for about £30, I know it's extra money but it's not a lot and it'll mean you can play your PS2 games.

Hardly a competitor is it, especially considering OcUK don't sell Playstation 2s. I thought the rule on mentioning other stores had been relaxed if OcUK don't sell the item we're discussing!

Surely you moderators should get together and sort this issue out once and for bloody all, and then post something informing the general population as to what the rule is on any particular day. As it stands now it's ridiculous, it's seems to change from hour to hour and from moderator to moderator.
