PS3 worth purchasing?

I'm sure you've heard it a thousand times before but just want your opinion on my views on buying one.

I currently have an Xbox Elite 120GB which hasn't seen use for maybe 6 months after I just stopped playing it really, couldn't be bothered forking out for live, and the most of the games had become dull.

However, I really want to play/replay the Ratchet & Clank series. The PS3 seems the best way to do this, with the HD trilogy and also the newer games (are they any good)? Looking at PS3's the Super Slim model looks good, however, obviously the most expensive.

Is it worth buying new? Are they worth the premium over a slim/phat? Is there anything I should be wary of if I do go secondhand? And do you think anybody would be willing to swap for my Xbox Elite with box, 2 HDD's, games etc? Or do PS3's still carry a massive premium over Xbox's?

Also the media capabilities of the PS3 seem to surpass the 360's and the fact that it takes a standard HDD I like. I would probably get the Uncharted series too, any other games that I should look out for?

I'm aware that the PS4 is due out in November or so, but I can't see it being able to play any of the PS3's games. And no way would I be forking out for a new console premium either.

/wall of text - cheers.

If I did go second-hand I think I would only go as low as a Slim and no older. Wouldn't want to risk a 6 year old one dying on me. I do want a 'new' gadget though, not second hand, but the savings would make it worthwhile. :p

Just missed a 500GB super slim on the bay for £139.99 wit Fifa 13. 10 sold in about an hour. :( Wasn't sure if legit so left it.

Could have just haggled an excellent deal on a super slim from a local seek and sell. £125 + for console 2 controllers and 10 games!

Ugh struggling to commit to buying one. The Slim as opposed to the super slim seems to be the most popular. Fair few issues reported with the SS. But then a slim could be up to 4 years old? These things don't break easily do they?

Doesn't sound bad. I'd honestly get a SS if I hadn't heard that you need to buy a bracket to put a HDD in the 12GB model, what a farce, and if the 500GB wasn't faulty on half of the models. Ugh. Trying to get a Slim for around £80 though.

Okay just agreed to buy one from a guy near me tomorrow. 12GB Super Slim, 2 controllers, Tekken V, Street fighter, Formula 1 2012, NFS most wanted, GTA IV, Liberty city stories, mod nations racing, NFS shift and FIFA 13. £120. Pretty chuffed. Just bought a 500GB 2.5 inch Samsung HDD for it too. Gonna get Ratchet & Clank Tools of destruction off my mate tomorrow. :)

I sourced the Classic collection for £21 from a well known supermarket. Doesn't seem like a bad price. Don't see many copies of it on the bay though. :(

So I got the PS3 today. Seems cool. HDD should be coming soon. And to the guy who asked about installing BF, no that will not work. A bit of the 12GB is used for system. Probably best off getting a second hand slim or phat with 60+GB HDD. Cheapest option anyway. But yeah, and 2.5" less than 9.5mm will work. 5400RPM seems to be the standard.
