Hi guys.

In preparation for Gran Turismo 5, I want to get it sorted so that I can play the Xbox and PS3 (when I buy one) through my PC monitor. The main reason I want to do this is because my desk is the only suitable place to use my Logitech G25.

I wouldn't mind also having the ability to record what i'm doing through a TV card of some sort.

As a complete novice to this kind of setup, where do I start and how much is it going to cost me?

My monitor only has a female (or male?) vga plug and that's the only output. I hope this isn't a problem.

Thanks.

Well im pretty sure you cant connect a ps3 to vga but i know Microsoft/Monster sell a cable which does xbox to vga and sound (just connect to your speakers)...google xbox to vga ;)
EDIT:Just seen you can get a vga to hdmi

Hi Peter
Just done the same with my setup, if your going to be using the hdmi option on the xbox/ps3 your going to need a monitor with a hdmi in connection. The sound will also play through the hdmi lead to the monitor but only if your hdmi connected monitor has speakers. The only other way is to use the optical for sound from xbox/ps3 to a optical in on your pc.
I just went ahead and got a hanns g 27" which has built in speakers and hdmi connections taking care of the audio and video its the simplest route, the monitor is pricey, take a look in the ocuk store but its outstanding for playing games, the audio speakers are not great but they do the job.

If you only have VGA on your monitor the PS3 is going to be a problem as it's probably not going to have HDCP which the PS3 requires. You could purchase a 'HD Fury' unit which will enable you to use your monitor with the PS3

I bought my monitor for that exact reason but was kinda disappointed...

my monitor has HDMI input and S/PDIF output for sound taken from the hdmi source (monitor has no speakers)

so the ps3 is connected directly to the monitor via HDMI, then the 's/pdif out' on the monitor to my soundcard on the pc, this way the sound for the ps3 comes out the speakers for the pc, so no need to change things round/swap wires etc

BUT :(

the sound only works in some games, and there is also a slight delay with it going through the pc etc

just a warning incase you consider going down that route at all!
