PS3 ylod question

I've had this before on my 60gb console and I fixed it using guides on youtube but now I'm the ps3 is having the same problem. I've took it to two different people who fix ps3s and both have said its the laser in the optical that's causing the problem.

I always thought the PS3 could still boot even with a faulty laser but just not read games or dvds. Does anybody know if a faulty lens can prevent it from turning on?

from my experience the ps3 turns on with a faulty laser, yold is usually a case of stripping, heating and re-applying thermal paste

It's not the laser, it's the solder points on the GPU. Needs a reflow or a reball. Don't waste your time with faffing around with a heatgun unless you just want to grab your save games off. Sell it on as faulty or take it to someone who won't fob you off with rubbish.
