Ok,
I feel I have to tell someone about my experience with Sony Customer service regarding the "yellow light of death" problem.
Firstly my PS3 is one of the very first; it was purchased just after the UK launch. It has been used extensivley by everyone here including the use of the blu-ray player and all its networking capilbilities.
It has never hiccupped once.
However last night it crashed during a WAW online game and produced said YLOD and red light.
I have just come off the phone to Sony customer support and they are replacing it free of charge for us.
Now I read a lot of people are slagging Sony off about this problem, but to be honest I reckon Sony deserve a big thumbs up customer support wise.
They didnt have to replace it, they could have charged me but they havnt.
Maybe it is a common hardware bug we are not being told about but they are replacing the machines.
Rock on Sony

If they are replacing it free of charge make sure they swap you like for like and ie. 60gig for 60gig one and not one of the newer ones with no BC.

Mines has just YLOD by the looks of it, never had a problem with it.

If anything, the last time I had a sony fault, when my PSP broke, I had a new one the next day replaced at time of pickup
