I have an original 60GB ps3 which recently got the YLOD. After watching some youtube videos I thought I'd try the hairdryer fix in order to (1) remove the disc and (2) backup data.

Well it worked, and the COD3 disc is out. However, when I try and backup using my 16GB usb stick (formatted fat32) it is saying there is not enough space. How much space to you need to backup???

If I were you, I'd back up all your savegames to the USB stick and sync your trophies before trying to back everything else up. Your savegames are the most important thing, everything else can be re-downloaded.

Thats all I want to do, backup all save games and sync trophies. How do I backup just the save games?

@ whitecrook. Why would I want to backup downloaded games, can't you just log in to your account on a new PS3 and re-download those?

Think I've got it. Went to savedata utility and copied the data to the memory card.

edit: Cheers Malevolence.

I don't think this fix will last more then a day!

I was gutted because I removed the warranty sticker and was getting ready to take it apart because a disc was stuck inside, I've removed a disc before for my cousin when his PS3 died. I looked on youtube AFTER and found the hairdryer fix, and I didn't actually need to open up the system at all in the end. My brother boxed it all up and took it to town yesterday where they tested it and it was working fine, and they wanted £70 to part ex it for a 320GB slim which he was gonna do until they realised the warranty sticker wasn't there so they couldn't swap it. Now I guess I can either take it all apart and sell it as parts or just as a YLOD repair job. If I hadn't removed that warranty sticker I'd have a slim now lol.

Khair Mubarak bro.

Result! I stuck the warranty sticker back on and took it into town today. They tested it again and yet again it passed all the tests, they offered me £127 store credit or £102 cash, I took the cash. They are really not bothered at all as long as it passes their tests, they said even if it dies the very next day it is their worry not mine. They will now be selling that for £170 with a 1 yr warranty. I could have paid £51 on top and taken a 120GB slim model but I'd rather buy new tbh...
