Ooops: Can a mod plz fix my title "Oct '12" to "Oct '13" :)

The latest rumours circulating are that the PS4 could be launched in October 2013 and the Xbox 720 could be November 2013. Both costing $350-400 SRP price bracket.

Both said to be built from off the shelf high-end PC parts. For ease and speedy development and shorter learning curve.

Both to be unveiled at E3 in June 2013.

Sony have been on record for saying that they're not going to let MS get the launch lead they got with the Xbox 360.

Looks like the battle between the 2 is about to heat up. Just a waiting game to see how these rumours stand.

It might not have a Blu-ray drive for playing Blu-ray movie discs but it will have an optical drive capable of handling 50GB discs. They're probably just going for a proprietary format like Nintendo have with the Wii U.

i didnt think it was posible to 50 gigs on a normal cd sorry if i miss understood you :)

They could go for the old HD-DVD format. The one that lost out to the BluRay war.

No drives produced for it anymore, would make disc duplication in the pirate market extremely difficult.

i was under the impression the ps4's eye dodah was a optional extra, not mandatory.

The PS4 cameras have to come part of the system. As an optional extra just means no support like the PS3 move.

At least Nintendo get it right by making stuff mandatory, so the developers know everyone has it.

i wonder if a subscription service like netflix for games would work?

£10 a month and you get all the games, all DLC, bonus's, etc.

how many would be interested in such a thing, i think it may be what comes into play by the time the PS5 is launched.

I wished Steam would have gone down that route. I don't think I can see it happening yet.

I'm gonna keep my "special editions" Wii and Xbox 360 and get a PS4.

I'm going to skip the next Xbox as its gonna be too home hub/media centre orientated for a games machine. Even then the media centre stuff will have huge restrictions :(

Would it be better to have two separate rams one for gfx and one for system? I know the ram is fast but any time that the system and the gfx is using ram I.e in a game won't the latency increase and bandwidth for each of the system and gfx reduce significantly as both transfer over the bus at the sane time?

They tried that in the PS3, and the GPU was effectively crippled by the lack of ram. The PS3 had 512mb, split into 2 banks of 256mb. The GPU only had access to 1 bank.

Well Id hope theyll be using USB 3 and SATA 3 so the practical bandwidth wont be that dissimilar, even though SATA 3 has a higher theoretical. Though once you consider the additional CPU cycles USB needs its hard to not want SATA 3 for storage, its what it was built for...

ps3ud0

Mechanical HDD can't even saturate a Sata 2 interface for thru-put. Sata 3 is only any use for SSDs that can throw out data quick enough.

True, sorry i thought he was referencing the 360s ability to utilize external drives in comparison to the PS3s ability to swap drives.

The 360 is limited to 16gb thru its USB for storage, ain't it?

I'm more or less decided on a PS4. I'm not sold on this glass, home entertainment hub that requires subscription upon subscription for gold and other services by MS. I just wanna play games.

I have a 360 and passed on the PS3.

TV integration in Britain is going to be hit and miss.

Sky and Virgin probably won't play ball, as they have their own equipment. All the services on the Xbox One seem orientated to the USA.

How will the xbox TV guide access Sky and Virgins' programme guides?

Its all too early to tell, but i'm not holding out any hope.

I don't quite understand why you would want to purchase an adapter to control your existing tv box via the xboxo? The tv unit and the xboxo would be both consuming power just so you can flail your arms, or give a speech command rather than pressing 101 etc? Nah.

I dont think its an adaptor as such. I think they mean a cable provider box. The Xbox One wont have a Sky or Virgin or anyone elses cable/sat tuners.
