Behind you... Naked!
My son has asked me to do this for him, I thought it would be a piece of cake, but the fact is.. Im an idiot.

He has a PS/4 ( and XBOX one but mostly uses the PS4 )

I have got fed up with the way my NAS boxeswork on the network and so I have setup my server again.

The server is simply sharing HDs.

All PCs simply Map networks drives and bingo! - they're all working nicely when I use a PC, be it Linux, Mac, or Windaz, but we just cannot get the PS/4 to access the files?

I am simply plonking a load onto a Flash disk, or USB Drive and thats the only way that we have done it.

Anyone done it so that he can access the Movies / Videos on the server? if so, how?

Plex is indeed great and free unless you want multiple profiles and maybe other more advanced features.

However, there's a know problem with the audio sync on the ps4 version. May not affect everyone but it did me; I am quite sensitive to such things.

Yep, Plex is the way to go. You can set it up to play via the media player on the PS4 but it doesn't have the codecs etc for MKV etc...

I use Universal Media player (used to me called PS3 Media Server) and it works incredibly well and plays/transcodes everything Ive ever thrown at it.

unless you want multiple profiles

This bit is easy to get around, you just get the second person to make a Plex account and then you add them as a friend and share your library. Unique Profiles. Done.

I have a few friends who do this (and no they do not need their own Plex server).
