This is how I updated my UK PS4 to beta

Download + Run Charles Proxy
Set up PS4 to use a proxy, point to computer IP on port 8888
Attempt a System update.
In Charles Proxy, expand FUK01 entry,
Right click PS4-updatelist.xml and Map Remote
Host: fuk01.ps4.update.playstation.net
Path: /update/ps4/beta/list/uk/ps4-updatelist.xml

http://duk01.ps4.update.playstation...a86a7dde26ea352caf88769/PS4UPDATE.PUP?dest=uk

Download and place on a USB drive in the folder PS4/UPDATE
Plug USB into PS4 and don't take it out

Turn off PS4
Hold power button down until second beep for safe mode
Update the Firmware via the Internet, you will get an error.
Update the firmware via USB, it will look like it installs but you will get an error

Restart PS4, login.

Hold PS button and sign out, this is when the Update File got added to the Downloads notification and is the only way it installs.
I gave up as I could get it appearing in the downloads, it took half an hour of messing around, but when I signed out this started the update download.

I think this breaks remote play until the Vita and PSTV are updated so I'll hang off for now. Remote play at 60fps is going to great so can't wait for everything to be updated.

I cant imagine anything worse than attempting to download a beta firmware from Sony through non-official means - just asking for your PS4 to be bricked. Im still tentative when it comes to firmwares that add features just in case they missed something...

More stability is always welcome though :)

BETA PlayStation firmware a good idea you say?

What exactly is happening that you need the Charles Proxy for? When I clicked on the link in the initial post, I started downloading the UPDATE.PUP file. Why won't this just run on PS4 via USB?

+1

why don't you just download the file and put it on a USB pen?

I am not even going to think about doing it as beta firmware on anything other than a router is just a no no for me.

Thanks for sharing the info, I'm sure some folk will give it a bash.

Not for me personally though :) I don't really like running beta software
